Overview

PlanbookEdu is an online lesson planner for teachers building lessons around weekly, rotating, or A/B-day schedules. It is strongest for teachers and school teams that need standards tagging and plan review; the free tier covers ongoing planning, while collaboration and exports require Premium.

Key features

The Free plan supports unlimited weekly plans, A/B-day and rotation schedules, and word-processor-style editing. The lack of a plan cap makes it a credible year-round planner, and the schedule flexibility matters for schools whose timetables do not fit a standard week.

Premium adds attachments, Common Core and state standards, sharing and collaboration, printing, Word and PDF export, search, and spell check. Standards tagging gives teachers a way to connect lessons to required frameworks, while file attachments and portable exports are more useful when plans move between colleagues or need review. Teachers who plan independently and do not need those functions can stay on Free.

School and district administrators can manage teacher accounts centrally, review submitted plans, and comment. School accounts support Google Workspace for Education single sign-on, making PlanbookEdu a better fit for coordinated review than a planner centered only on an individual teacher. The account terms still require each individual subscriber to keep their account for their own use.

Plans can be printed from a browser or exported to Word and PDF with Premium. The Help Center says support is available by email and usually responds the same school day. PlanbookEdu says it does not rent or sell personally identifying information and limits access to service providers who need it and agree not to disclose it. Its terms make the website available only to people at least 13 years old.

Pricing

Free: Free, billed free forever. It includes unlimited weekly plans, A/B-day and rotation schedules, word-processor editing, and use on iPad and phone. It is the sensible starting point for an individual teacher who wants a persistent planner without a plan-count ceiling, but it leaves out attachments, standards, collaboration, and export.

Premium: 30.00 USD per year, billed $30/year. It includes everything in Free plus file attachments, Common Core and state standards, sharing and collaboration, print and Word or PDF export, search, and spell check. This is the relevant plan for teachers who submit or share plans, or need standards tagging. A 14-day trial is available. Individual accounts are not shareable, so the plan should not be treated as a pooled seat.

Platforms

PlanbookEdu is available on Android, iOS, and the web. Mobile access is web-only, while the Free plan specifically supports use on iPad and phone. The company offers no separate native-app capability in its mobile access description.

Who it's for

PlanbookEdu suits teachers who want unlimited weekly planning and flexible schedules, and schools or districts that need centralized account management and submitted-plan review. It is less compelling for teachers who need collaboration, standards tagging, or file handling on a free plan, or for users seeking a native mobile workflow.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited weekly plans and A/B-day or rotation scheduling make the free tier viable across a full school year and varied timetables.
Pro: School administrators can manage accounts, review plans, and comment, with Google Workspace for Education single sign-on for school accounts.
Pro: Premium combines standards tagging, attachments, collaboration, and common export formats for teachers whose plans need to travel or be reviewed.
Con: The free plan omits standards, collaboration, attachments, and export, limiting its usefulness for formal submission workflows.
Con: Mobile access is web-only, and individual subscriber accounts cannot be shared.

Alternatives

Browse Lesson Planning Software for a broader comparison. Choose LessonApp if its free tier's teaching methods, draft lessons, and access to other users’ plans better match your workflow. Common Planner is another free lesson-planning option. TeacherHero is also a freemium option. Consider Planbook if its listed individual and school/district license options fit your purchasing needs. Planboard offers free digital lesson planning for teachers. SchEDU may suit teachers looking for automated term planning, though its free plan is limited to two lifetime lesson plans. Lesson Maker Pro is an option for teachers who want generated lessons and materials within monthly quotas. Daytical is a paid alternative with a listed annual plan and unlimited courses, students, and plans.

Verdict

Choose PlanbookEdu if you want a no-cost planner with unlimited weekly plans, flexible schedules, and a path to school-level review. Premium’s $30 annual price is aimed at teachers who need standards, collaboration, attachments, and exports. Look elsewhere if those capabilities must be free or if native mobile access is essential.
