Overview

NetSpot brings Wi-Fi inspection, site surveys, troubleshooting, and network planning into one app for home users and wireless professionals. It suits people who need to diagnose nearby networks as well as map or plan coverage; its strongest case is the breadth of those workflows, while larger projects and team use require attention to edition limits.

Key features

Inspect and diagnose

Inspector mode shows nearby networks with channel, vendor, security, band, signal, and noise details. Spectrum analysis, channel recommendations, and historical analysis add useful context for diagnosing wireless conditions rather than relying on a single scan.

Survey coverage

Survey mode builds interactive, color-coded heatmaps, with more than 20 visualizations and customizable reports. Survey results export to PDF or CSV, and heatmaps can be saved as PNG. This gives users several ways to share findings, though PRO caps projects at 50 zones, 50 snapshots per zone, and 500 data points per snapshot.

Plan and test

Planning mode supports predictive surveys and network design, including multi-floor layouts. Active survey throughput testing can use Iperf 3 or custom speed-test servers. These capabilities make NetSpot relevant before deployment as well as during troubleshooting, but the PRO quotas may constrain extensive or repeated surveys.

Privacy and offline use

NetSpot says survey, scan, heatmap, network, and location data are processed locally and are not automatically sent to Etwok. Desktop editions can be activated offline and then run entirely offline. The app may send anonymized, aggregated usage statistics, which users can disable in Preferences; Etwok says the limited personal data it holds is protected with access controls and encryption in transit.

Pricing

NetSpot is freemium. NetSpot Free costs 0.00 USD per free and is for personal and evaluation use on macOS and Windows. The free edition is a practical starting point, but it does not provide the published paid-plan quotas or the 10-user team allocation.

The 7-day full-featured PRO trial requires a valid corporate email and an explanation for the request, a hurdle that may rule out casual evaluation. NetSpot PRO Annual Subscription has custom pricing and renews automatically every 12 months unless canceled. It covers 1 user and 1 technician, with 50 zones per project, 50 snapshots per zone, and 500 data points per snapshot.

NetSpot PRO Lifetime License also has custom pricing, is paid once, and includes all updates; it has the same single-user and survey limits as PRO annual. For individuals and solopreneurs, PRO is the relevant paid tier, with lifetime avoiding automatic renewal in exchange for an upfront purchase.

NetSpot Enterprise Annual Subscription has custom pricing, renews automatically every 12 months unless canceled, and provides 10 users and 10 technicians with unlimited zones, snapshots, and data points. NetSpot Enterprise Lifetime License has custom pricing, is paid once, includes all updates, and offers the same team size and unlimited survey capacity. Enterprise is intended for teams and organizations; its unlimited project dimensions are the clear distinction from PRO.

Platforms

NetSpot supports Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. The free edition is for macOS and Windows, and the offline-use claim applies to desktop editions after activation.

Who it's for

Choose NetSpot if you need inspection, visual survey work, and predictive planning in one Wi-Fi tool, especially when local processing or desktop offline operation matters. PRO fits individual operators whose projects fit its quotas; Enterprise is the more suitable tier for organizations needing multiple users and uncapped survey dimensions. It is less compelling if your priority is a simple free scanner or if the trial's corporate-email requirement makes evaluation impractical.

Pros and cons

Pro: Inspection, heatmaps, predictive planning, multi-floor design, and throughput testing cover distinct stages of wireless work in one product.
Pro: Local processing and desktop offline operation after activation suit users who need to keep survey work on-device.
Con: PRO's 50-zone, 50-snapshot, and 500-point caps can limit larger or repeat survey projects.
Con: The full-featured trial lasts only 7 days and requires a corporate email plus an explanation.
Con: Paid plan prices are custom, making cost comparison difficult before contacting the seller.

Alternatives

inSSIDer is worth considering for Wi-Fi scanning and visualization on macOS or Windows; it has a free edition requiring an Oscium account and MetaGeek Plus at 200.00 USD per year.
Parkdale is a free option for readers seeking software that is free to download and use on Android, macOS, or Windows.
WiFiman is a free, ad-free mobile app across Android and iOS; its desktop version is limited to UniFi Device Discovery and Teleport VPN.
Acrylic Wi-Fi Heatmaps is a Windows alternative with a free trial.
Kismet is a free, open-source choice for readers who want software spanning Linux, macOS, Windows, API, and self-hosted platforms.
TamoGraph Site Survey is a paid macOS and Windows alternative with a free trial.
WiFi Scanner is a paid macOS and Windows option, with its Core plan at 195.00 USD per year; the charge is billed once, not as a subscription.
AirMagnet Survey PRO is another freemium alternative for macOS and Windows.
Browse Wi-Fi Analyzer Software for more choices focused on Wi-Fi analysis, or Network Diagnostic Software for broader diagnostic tools.

Verdict

NetSpot is a strong fit for individual Wi-Fi practitioners and organizations that need inspection, survey heatmaps, and predictive design in one workflow. Its local processing and offline desktop operation are meaningful advantages, but PRO quotas, an unusually gated short trial, and custom pricing are good reasons to compare alternatives before committing.
