Overview

Qustodio is parental-control software for families who want to manage children’s devices and monitor their activity. It suits households that need website and app restrictions alongside screen-time and location tools. Its broad mix of controls is useful, but platform-specific limits and a five-device cap on Basic make plan selection important.

Its controls include blocking or limiting inappropriate websites and apps, setting time limits, scheduling breaks, pausing internet access, and creating screen-free routines. Activity monitoring covers browsing, social media, and location in real time. That breadth makes Qustodio more suitable for parents seeking ongoing visibility than for those who only need a basic screen-time timer.

Key features

Rules for apps, websites, and downtime

Families can combine content filtering and app blocking with scheduled breaks and internet pauses. That offers more ways to set boundaries than a single daily screen-time allowance, though households seeking only simple time limits may find the wider control set unnecessary.

Monitoring across services

Qustodio monitors browsing, social media, and location in real time. Social monitoring covers WhatsApp, Instagram, and Line; its Premium comparison also lists TikTok, Snapchat, and X chat alerts. These alerts are not universal across devices: certain Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and X alerts are Android-only. Calls and messages monitoring on iOS requires a Windows or Mac computer. Those dependencies matter for families choosing around a child’s particular device.

Pricing

Qustodio has a free plan and two annual paid plans. The free version protects one device with basic protection features, making it a limited way to start, but not a fit for a household that needs controls across several devices.

Basic: 72.94 USD per year, billed annually, for up to 5 devices. This is the paid option for families whose coverage needs fit within that cap.
Complete: 104.95 USD per year, billed annually, for unlimited family devices. The higher annual price is justified for households that would otherwise exceed Basic’s five-device limit.

Qustodio offers a Premium feature trial after creating a free account and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Premium is advertised with a 10% discount using code SMART10. Payment methods include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Google Pay, and Apple Pay, depending on location.

Platforms

Qustodio supports Windows, Android, iOS, Mac, and Kindle. The breadth is useful for households with a mix of devices, but some monitoring features have platform requirements: iOS calls and messages monitoring needs a Windows or Mac computer, and certain social alerts and the panic button are Android-only.

Who it's for

Qustodio is a strong fit for parents who want content filtering, app limits, scheduled downtime, and activity visibility in one service, especially across multiple device types. Basic’s five-device allowance suits smaller coverage needs; larger families can consider Complete’s unlimited device coverage. It is less compelling if the household needs only a free tool for one device or relies on a feature that is restricted to a particular platform.

Pros and cons

Pros: Web and app controls work alongside time limits, breaks, internet pauses, and screen-free routines, giving families several ways to shape device use.
Pros: Complete removes the device-count ceiling, which can suit families with many devices.
Cons: The free plan covers only one device, while Basic is capped at five; broader coverage requires Complete.
Cons: Some social alerts are Android-only, and iOS calls and messages monitoring requires access to a Windows or Mac computer.

Alternatives

OurPact is worth considering for families focused on manual blocks and a scheduled block, with a free plan covering one child device and five manual blocks per month.

Mobicip is another multi-platform option; its Basic plan covers two managed devices, while Qustodio’s free plan is limited to one device.

FamilyTime is an option for families willing to begin with a free trial rather than a free plan.

Kaspersky Safe Kids may suit families seeking a free plan with basic parental-control features and unlimited use.

Wondershare FamiSafe offers a yearly plan at 59.99 USD per year for 10 devices, with a 3-day free trial; compare that device coverage and trial with Qustodio’s plans.

Safe Lagoon is an Android-only option with free web filtering.

KidSafe360 is an alternative for families considering Android or web coverage.

Apple Screen Time is a free built-in option for Apple devices, requiring Family Sharing and individual Apple Accounts to manage a child’s controls across a family group.

Verdict

Choose Qustodio if you want a broad set of content, time, and activity controls across a household’s devices, and its platform-specific conditions match your needs. Its main advantage is that mix of controls, with Complete extending coverage to unlimited family devices. Look elsewhere if you need a free plan for multiple devices or depend on social and communications features that do not work on your child’s platform.
