Overview

VolunteerMark is volunteer-management software that brings recruitment, scheduling, communications, and service records into one system. It suits nonprofits, universities, and other organizations running anything from occasional events to large volunteer programs. Its free plan is a practical starting point for small rosters, while paid plans add scale and operational tools but cap text messaging.

Key features

Scheduling and communication

Coordinators can create one-time, flexible, and fixed positions, with automatic scheduling tools and reminders. Email, SMS, in-app notifications, direct messaging, chat, and announcements give programs several ways to reach volunteers. That range helps when schedules change or volunteers need timely updates; the monthly SMS allowances on paid plans are a constraint for organizations that rely on texting.

Records and mobile operations

Volunteers can log service hours, obtain organization approval, and print certificates. The volunteer app adds opportunity search, signup, position management, hour tracking, notifications, and social sharing. A separate kiosk app supports self- or coordinator-led check-in and check-out, PIN-based event access, and tracking hours served. These tools make VolunteerMark more suitable for managing recurring activity and event attendance than a basic signup form.

Integration, branding, and security

The Salesforce integration syncs volunteer profiles, hours, and activities, then automates data updates—useful for organizations already maintaining volunteer information in Salesforce. Whitelabel branding adds an organization logo, colors, themes, and a custom subdomain. Security measures include SSL connections with up to 256-bit EV encryption, encrypted inter-server communication and database data, firewalled servers, and controlled access. VolunteerMark also says user data is copied immediately to multiple locations in RackSpace data centers for redundancy.

Pricing

VolunteerMark has a free plan and paid plans. The pricing note gives a starting paid price of $34/mo (annual), while the named paid tiers provide month-to-month prices; compare the applicable term before budgeting.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes	Best fit
FREE	Free forever	Up to 50 volunteers, one administrator, and unlimited event creation	A small organization testing the workflow or running a modest program. The 50-volunteer and single-admin ceilings limit its use for larger teams.
Essential	89.00 USD per month; month-to-month	Unlimited volunteers and administrators; 100 text messages per month	Growing programs that need more seats and coordinators. The SMS allowance may be restrictive for frequent texting.
Royale	149.00 USD per month; month-to-month	Unlimited volunteers and administrators; 250 text messages per month; multiple locations, external services, and data migration	Organizations coordinating across locations or needing migration support. It raises the text quota, but still sets a monthly cap.

Volunteer accounts and the volunteer app are free, so volunteers can search opportunities, track hours, receive certificates, and share them socially without adding an account charge. Trial terms differ: the pricing FAQ says 14 days, while the signup page advertises a 30-day unlimited trial. Confirm the trial period before relying on it. Customer support is offered by calls, email, and online chat five days a week.

Platforms

VolunteerMark runs on the web and has Android and iOS apps. The volunteer app supports signup, hour tracking, notifications, and position management, while the kiosk app adds check-in and check-out workflows. Mobile access is useful for events and volunteers away from a desk; organizations needing only a web-based roster may not need the app layer.

Who it's for

VolunteerMark is a strong option for nonprofits and larger institutions that need scheduling, communications, hour approvals, and event check-in under one roof, especially when Salesforce syncing or branded volunteer access matters. Its scalability suits programs ranging from a local one-off event to a university or national nonprofit. It is less compelling for small teams that need more than 50 volunteers but cannot justify a paid tier, or for programs whose messaging volume exceeds the paid SMS quotas.

Pros and cons

Pros: One system covers flexible position scheduling, multiple communication channels, service-hour records, approvals, and certificates, reducing the need to stitch together separate volunteer workflows.
Pros: A free volunteer app and kiosk check-in tools support both individual self-service and staffed event operations.
Pros: Salesforce syncing, custom subdomain branding, and multi-location support address needs beyond basic signup management.
Cons: The free plan stops at 50 volunteers and one administrator, which can force a growing program to upgrade.
Cons: Paid plans include only 100 or 250 monthly text messages, so SMS-heavy programs may need to reconsider their communication approach.
Cons: Trial terms vary between 14 and 30 days, making it important to confirm the duration before starting.

Alternatives

POINT is worth comparing for organizations that want a free plan with unlimited volunteers and administrators, plus signups, scheduling, messaging, reminders, and time tracking.

Vome may suit a team prioritizing recruitment forms and onboarding: its free Recruit plan includes one application form, one onboarding sequence, 35 default database fields, and unlimited volunteers and administrator seats.

Church Volunteering is a narrower option for churches with a small team: its free plan covers one team and up to 10 volunteers, with manual reminders and a basic roster builder; Standard is 12.00 USD per month.

SignUp.com is another freemium option for organizers whose needs fit its Basic plan of one primary organizer, one custom participant question, one group page, and email support.

Charity Republic may be preferable for organizations seeking a paid web-based service with a stated per-month price for fewer than 250 volunteers, plus free setup and training.

Volunteer Scheduler Pro is an alternative for teams that want flexible scheduling and online volunteer access across mobile, web, desktop, or Windows platforms; its price depends on edition and volunteer count.

Volgistics offers a paid option with a 9.00 USD per month base service for 50 volunteer records, though optional modules and additional records or operators change the total.

VolunteerLocal is an alternative with a 200.00 USD per once single-event plan, including two admin seats and 10,000 SMS per year in the US and Canada.

Verdict

Choose VolunteerMark if your organization needs scheduling, volunteer records, communications, and mobile event operations in one platform, with room to grow into Salesforce syncing and multiple locations. Look elsewhere if your roster outgrows the free cap but your budget is limited, or if your program depends on more monthly SMS than its paid plans allow.
