Overview

UrbanPro is a marketplace for one-to-one learning, connecting learners with tutors, trainers, and institutes across more than 1,000 categories. It suits people who want to compare educators and lesson formats before choosing; tutors should weigh the paid membership and variable coin costs before pursuing student enquiries.

Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Bengaluru, India, UrbanPro covers academic tuition, exam preparation, languages, hobbies, IT courses, professional skills, and personal development. Learners can choose online or offline lessons and attend free demo classes. See our Online tutoring platforms list for more options.

Key features

Compare educators and lesson formats

Profile comparisons and free demos give learners a chance to assess a potential match before committing. The choice between online and offline instruction is useful for learners who do not want to be limited to remote lessons. Its broad category mix also makes UrbanPro relevant beyond school subjects, though the marketplace’s central format is one-to-one learning.

Tools for tutors

The tutor app includes two-way audio and video, screen sharing, virtual whiteboards, class and attendance management, notes sharing, and online student testing. That combination supports live teaching as well as routine class administration, making the app more useful to tutors who manage lessons through UrbanPro than to educators looking only for a way to advertise.

Trust, payments, and support

UrbanPro says tutors undergo identity and education checks, and users can block or report suspicious behavior. It recommends Secure Pay for transactions between tutors and students. Its US privacy policy says it uses encryption and secure servers and does not directly store payment card details. Support is available by chat and phone from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. IST, Monday through Saturday, with critical-issue support from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. IST every day.

Pricing

UrbanPro uses a freemium model. Creating an account is free, but tutors need premium membership to respond to student enquiries; the Free account plan therefore suits browsing or joining without pursuing leads, not tutors who need to contact prospective students.

Premium membership includes UrbanPro Coins, which are used to respond to enquiries. The coin cost varies with subject, student location, demand, and student behavior, and may change without notice. Tutors should account for this variable cost as well as membership before relying on UrbanPro for lead generation. Learners can use free demo classes to assess educators, while the free account itself does not remove the tutor-side response requirement.

Platforms

UrbanPro is available on the web, Android, and iOS. It provides separate Android apps for tutors and learners, and its learner app is listed for iPhone and iPad. The separate tutor app is the relevant option for educators using the teaching and class-management tools.

Who it's for

UrbanPro is a strong fit for learners seeking one-to-one instruction across varied subjects, especially those who want to compare profiles, try a free demo, or choose between online and offline lessons. It also suits tutors and institutes prepared to pay for membership and manage enquiry costs that can vary. Tutors wanting predictable lead-response costs should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Broad subject coverage: More than 1,000 categories include academic, professional, and personal-development learning, so the marketplace extends beyond conventional tutoring.
Choice before commitment: Profile comparisons, free demos, and online or offline lesson options help learners evaluate fit.
Substantial tutor toolkit: Video, screen sharing, whiteboards, attendance management, notes, and testing support both teaching and class organization.
Paid access to enquiries: Tutors need premium membership to respond to students, so a free account is not enough for active lead follow-up.
Variable coin costs: Response costs depend on several factors and can change without notice, limiting cost predictability for tutors.

Alternatives

Choose Cambly instead if you want paid tutor-led group lessons; its Small groups plan starts at 17.00 USD per month, with billing interval and lesson frequency varying by plan. Cuemath is the alternative to consider for a paid, structured mathematics program; its KG-G2 12-month plan is 15.00 USD per year and includes 104 classes, billed every 52 weeks. italki is another freemium option focused on private language lessons, with teacher-set prices.

Vedantu offers a freemium alternative with a 20,000.00 INR per year foundation plan covering Physics, Aptitude, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and English. Pick Outschool instead for a paid membership with 80 shared credits across learners and a 14-day trial, or pay per class. Preply is a paid alternative with tutor subscriptions billed every 28 days, priced according to the tutor and lesson amount. Tutor.com suits learners wanting on-demand academic help, with a 1 Hour/Month plan for 39.99 USD per month and tutors available 24/7 across 80+ subjects. Wyzant is another option for pay-as-you-go lessons, with tutors setting hourly rates and a 9% student service fee per lesson.

Verdict

UrbanPro is best for learners who want a wide choice of one-to-one subjects, provider comparisons, free demos, and the option of offline lessons. Tutors can benefit from its dedicated teaching tools, but should choose it only if premium membership and changing coin costs make sense for their enquiry strategy; otherwise, a more predictable way to reach students is a better fit.
