Overview

Repper turns an image into a seamless, tileable pattern, with controls for repeats, color, and visual effects. It is best suited to designers and makers who want to develop artwork into patterns and preview them on products. Its strongest case is a broad set of tilings and large exports; its clearest drawback is that mobile and desktop designs remain separate.

Users can start from bitmap or vector artwork or browse Unsplash photos inside the app. Repper has been online since 2008, and its browser-based desktop and tablet app avoids installation.

Key features

Pattern creation and effects

More than 30 geometric tilings include rectangular grids, facade arrangements, classic wallpaper groups, and the Penrose Diamond. This range gives pattern-focused users room to explore symmetry-based repeats beyond a basic grid. Colorway tools, plus duotone, black-and-white, gradient, halftone, and Metamorphosis effects, help reshape a source image without changing tools.

Mockups and output

Three-dimensional mockups cover t-shirts, dresses, pillows, scarves, notebooks, and fabric. They help users consider a design in product context, though a preview is not a finished product. Exports include JPEG, PNG, and SVG/vector, with Pro exports reaching 35k × 35k pixels. That ceiling is substantial for detailed artwork; the mobile app instead has simplified export options.

Accounts and support

The desktop and tablet app supports automatic sync and account backup. Repper Mobile runs in an iOS or Android phone browser without an app-store download, but it is a separate application and designs do not sync between mobile and desktop. Repper says support comes from a real person, typically within a day, and offers a help centre and email support.

Pricing

Repper Mobile — 0.00 USD per free. The mobile web app is a useful no-cost way to make patterns on a phone, but image uploads are limited to the first two weeks, exports are simplified, and work stays separate from the desktop app. Those limits make it a poor fit for a continuing cross-device workflow.

Pro Monthly — 12.99 USD per month. Taxes are included. The plan includes an unlimited commercial license, bitmap and vector support, exports up to 35k × 35k pixels, 3D preview and export, unlimited collections, and automatic sync and backup. It is the clearest fit for regular work or commercial use, without a long-term billing commitment.

Pro Yearly — custom pricing. It includes the same Pro features and advertises 12 months for the price of 9, a 25% saving. Choose it if a year of use is likely; the stated saving makes it less attractive for short-term or uncertain needs. Repper also offers a 14-day trial.

Repper says users may use and sell their creations commercially without restrictions, and retain those rights after cancelling. That makes the license unusually straightforward for work intended for sale; users should still distinguish retained rights from continued access to paid tools.

Platforms

Repper runs in web browsers on desktop computers and tablets, and its mobile version runs in phone browsers on iOS and Android. The browser-based desktop and tablet app needs no installation, but the separate mobile app and lack of design transfer matter to anyone who expects to move a project between devices.

Repper's privacy policy says personal data is stored on Google Cloud in the European Union and identifies Firebase as a service host. The policy states it was last modified on 23 September 2019.

Who it's for

Repper suits surface-pattern designers, illustrators, and makers who want to turn existing images into seamless repeats, compare tiling structures, and preview patterns on product mockups. Pro is the stronger choice for high-resolution output, vector work, backup, and commercial projects. The free mobile tier is better treated as a limited phone-based option than a companion to desktop work.

It is less suitable for users who need one design library to move freely between phone and desktop, or who need more than a simplified export workflow without paying for Pro.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 30 tilings and a varied set of effects give pattern makers meaningful ways to alter repeats and appearance.
Pros: Pro combines vector support, exports up to 35k × 35k pixels, mockups, and unlimited commercial rights.
Pros: Browser access, automatic sync, and backup support a desktop and tablet workflow without installation.
Cons: Mobile and desktop are separate apps, and designs cannot be accessed across them.
Cons: The free mobile option restricts image uploads after the first two weeks and offers simplified exports.
Cons: The yearly plan's price is custom, so its advertised saving cannot be compared directly with Monthly before purchase.

Alternatives

For AI-oriented pattern tools, Raspberry AI Prints & Patterns offers a free tier with 50 one-time credits and an Individual plan at 49.00 USD per month with 120 monthly credits and seven-day history. Pick it when a credit-based AI workflow is a better fit than Repper's image-to-repeat tools.

ArahWeave is a weaving CAD/CAM option for Linux, macOS, and Windows; its free demo cannot save projects. It is the more relevant alternative for weaving work, while that save restriction makes the demo unsuitable for keeping project files.

Loocie Design is a free web-based beta for desktop, tablet, and phone; choose it if access across those device types matters more than Repper's Pro export and commercial-license package. Its tools may change and files auto-delete after a short time.

Texloom Studio has a free tier with 100 starting credits and 27 tool pages available without signup, plus a Starter plan priced at 15.00 USD per month or 10.00 USD per month billed yearly. It is worth considering when that credit-based tool access suits the job better than Repper's repeat-focused workflow.

JUMI PatternMaker is a free web tool with no signup or subscription, no watermark, and SVG and PNG exports up to 8000px for personal and commercial use. Choose it for a no-cost browser option when that export ceiling is enough.

TUKA3D is a paid Windows alternative with a free trial; consider it if a Windows-based option fits your needs.

Textile Designer AI is a paid API, macOS, web, and Windows option; its Basic plan costs 999.00 INR per month for 275 credits and one user, with unused credits expiring after 30 days. It may suit readers looking for that credit-based setup instead.

Artlandia SymmetryWorks is a paid extension for macOS and Windows, with a student download at 124.50 USD per once and a full download at 249.00 USD per once.

Verdict

Repper is a strong choice for designers who want a browser-based way to turn images into varied, seamless repeats, preview them on products, and export large files with commercial rights. Pro Monthly is the practical route for ongoing or sellable work. Look elsewhere if you need mobile and desktop designs to stay in sync, or if simplified free mobile exports are not enough and a paid plan is out of scope.
