Overview

Rather than serving as a conventional podcast player, Podhoc builds episodes from source material. Its nine audio styles include Deep Dive, Critique, Didactic, Debate and the Feynman Technique, so the same subject can be framed for different learning needs. Episode lengths range from five minutes to two hours. That flexibility is useful for both a quick listen and a longer treatment, though the result depends on the sources and plan limits you choose.

Key features

Bring in reading and video

Podhoc accepts YouTube URLs, web articles, Wikipedia pages and pasted text; Creator and Pro add PDF, DOCX, DOC and TXT uploads. Free is limited to one source per podcast, Creator allows two and Pro allows up to 50. The difference makes Pro the fit for combining a substantial reading list, while Free is better for trying one item at a time. YouTube transcript extraction helps turn videos into listening material, and Chrome and Firefox extensions can save webpage links for later.

Shape the listening experience

Nine built-in styles offer more than a single summary format, including instructional, critical and debate-oriented approaches. Creator and Pro support 73 output languages, against two on Free; both paid plans also include two voices on Creator or three on Pro, plus read-along on Creator. For someone working across languages or wanting several sources in one episode, Free's limits arrive quickly.

Integrations, privacy and access

A Telegram bot provides another way to use the service, while Pro adds a REST API for developers integrating Podhoc into learning or content systems. The API accepts publicly accessible URLs but not file uploads or raw text, a meaningful constraint if a workflow depends on private documents or direct text input. Uploaded files remain private, but generated episodes are public in Discover by default; Creator and Pro can turn off auto-publishing. Podhoc says user data is hosted in Frankfurt, is not used to train external AI models, and is handled under EU privacy regulations.

Native iOS and Android apps are available, and Podhoc says episodes can sync to Garmin and Apple Watch for listening away from a phone. Chrome support is desktop-only; the Firefox extension requires desktop Firefox 142 or later, while Safari support is coming soon. Customer service is reachable at hi@podhoc.com, with a typical response time of 24 hours on business days.

Pricing

Podhoc is freemium, with a Free plan at no cost and paid plans starting at €2.29 according to its pricing note. The named subscription and credit-pack prices are:

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	Free	50 welcome credits; one source per podcast; two supported languages; pasted text or supported URLs; episodes public by default.
Creator monthly	20.99 EUR per month	1,000 credits per month; up to two sources per podcast; 73 languages; file uploads; two voices; read-along.
Creator yearly	230.99 EUR per year	12,000 credits per year with the same two-source, language, upload, voice and read-along allowances as Creator monthly.
Credit pack	44.99 EUR per once	2,000 credits, described as 20 listed 30-minute podcasts; credits never expire.
Pro monthly	72.99 EUR per month	3,500 credits per month; up to 50 sources per podcast; 73 languages; three voices; source weighting; priority processing; credit rollover; REST API.
Pro yearly	802.99 EUR per year	42,000 credits per year with the same Pro features and 50-source limit.

Free is a constrained way to try the service, not a broad-use tier: it has 50 welcome credits, one source at a time, two languages and public episodes by default. Creator suits regular listeners who need uploads or 73 languages but can work with two sources per episode. Its yearly option costs less than twelve monthly payments at the stated rates, while keeping the same feature allowances. The one-time credit pack is a better fit for occasional use where credits should not expire, though it does not replace a subscription's stated monthly or yearly allowance. Pro is aimed at heavier research and integration workflows: the larger source bundle, source weighting, priority processing, rollover and API access are the case for its substantially higher price. The maker says subscriptions can be upgraded, downgraded or canceled anytime.

Platforms

Podhoc runs on web, iOS and Android, with browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox. The mobile apps and watch syncing suit listening away from a computer; desktop-only browser support limits the extensions for mobile-first users.

Who it's for

Researchers and students can turn articles, video transcripts and uploaded documents into listening material; knowledge workers can use the styles and longer episodes to revisit source content. Developers may find the Pro API useful when building learning or content systems, provided their inputs are publicly accessible URLs. It is less suitable for someone who only wants a free podcast player, needs private files through the API, or wants to build multi-source episodes without paying.

Pros and cons

Pros: A wide mix of source types, nine audio styles and episode lengths up to two hours make it adaptable to different materials and listening goals.
Pros: Native mobile apps and stated Garmin and Apple Watch syncing support listening away from a phone.
Pros: Creator and Pro add 73 languages and file uploads; Pro adds large source bundles and an API for integration work.
Cons: Free is limited to one source per episode and two languages, and episodes are public by default.
Cons: Creator costs 20.99 EUR per month, while the 50-source limit and API are reserved for Pro at 72.99 EUR per month.
Cons: The REST API cannot take file uploads or raw text, narrowing its usefulness for private-document workflows.

Alternatives

If Podhoc's source limits or workflow do not fit, these options cover different needs. AI Podcast Generators is a broader directory of options to compare. Choose 302 AI Podcast Generator if desktop Linux, macOS or Windows access and free basic usage matter more than Podhoc's mobile apps and defined source-to-episode workflow. AudioPod AI is another freemium option with API and iOS access, a free monthly credit allowance and per-file duration and upload-size caps. Tider may suit listeners who want unlimited on-device podcasts and summaries, document and URL uploads, and locally stored saved plans. Paper2Pod is an iOS and web alternative with a Pro plan at 2.99 USD per month and research-focused features. VocalVia offers a web-based free workflow preview and paid monthly plans with credits and catalog-voice minutes. Wondercraft is a web and API option whose free tier includes 150 credits and 720p export, with a Creator plan at 25.00 USD per month. AnyPod is a free listening option for people who want a catalog, offline listening and speed control rather than source-to-episode creation. Sprep is another freemium option with a one-episode, 15-minute, one-language free tier.

Verdict

Podhoc is a good choice for learners and researchers who want configurable audio from their reading and video sources, especially if mobile listening or multiple languages matter. Its main advantage is the combination of varied inputs, listening styles and long episodes; the main reason to look elsewhere is the price of broader source access and API use, alongside a free tier that is deliberately narrow.
