Overview

Qualtrics brings survey collection and analysis together with its XM Data & AI platform, which combines experience data with human context to support decisions and outcomes. The company says enterprises, governments, and healthcare organizations use its tools for sensitive programs. That breadth makes it a credible option for complex organizational research, though its more advanced capacity comes at an annual commitment.

Key features

Survey logic is a notable strength: even the free account supports skip, display, and branch logic, so researchers can tailor question paths without upgrading. Paid Strategic Research plans expand the toolkit to 23 question types, including video and audio responses. More than 20 guided research solutions offer structured workflows, while surveys support more than 70 languages. Dashboards cover 24, a narrower range that may matter to teams presenting findings across many locales.

Response analytics are complemented by crosstabs, statistical tools, and generative-AI summaries of video responses. Data exports include CSV, TSV, Excel, SPSS, and other formats, which gives analysts options for continuing work elsewhere. Qualtrics also offers simulation, prediction, and trusted-outcome actions. Together these capabilities favor teams with formal research needs over users seeking only a simple questionnaire tool.

Pricing

Qualtrics Surveys Free is free. It includes one user, three active surveys, 30 questions per survey, 500 total responses, and eight question types. That is a useful starting point for an individual or small project, and the logic controls are unusually capable for a free tier. The hard response and survey caps, plus the limited question-type selection, make it unsuitable for larger or continuing programs.

Strategic Research costs 420.00 USD per month, billed $5,040 USD annually, for 1,000 responses shared across all users. It is aimed at small teams, individuals, and academics, and includes unlimited users, surveys, and questions per survey alongside 23 question types. Unlimited seats and surveys remove useful operational ceilings, but the shared response allowance remains the key constraint: teams should estimate combined demand before committing to an annual term.

Strategic Research Custom has custom pricing based on interactions and is intended for enterprise organizations needing higher response volumes. It includes 5,000 or more responses, 23 question types, and unlimited users, surveys, and questions per survey. The 30-day Strategic Research trial opens most premium features, subject to restrictions, then automatically downgrades to the free account if not upgraded. No credit card is required for the free account.

Who it's for

Qualtrics is a strong fit for researchers and organizations that need conditional survey flows, multilingual collection, structured analysis, or room to scale from a small study to enterprise response volumes. The free account works for an individual testing modest projects; teams wanting broader question types and unlimited survey creation will need Strategic Research. Organizations whose response needs exceed the shared 1,000-response allowance should consider the custom enterprise plan. Those who need a low-cost ongoing option without an annual billing commitment may find the paid entry plan harder to justify.

Pros and cons

Pro: Branching, skip, and display logic are available even on the free account, enabling tailored survey paths without an upgrade.
Pro: Paid plans include 23 question types, more than 20 guided solutions, and advanced analysis, supporting richer research workflows.
Pro: Unlimited users, surveys, and questions on Strategic Research help small teams collaborate without seat or survey-count limits.
Con: The free account is limited to one user, three active surveys, and 500 responses, so it will not sustain larger programs.
Con: Strategic Research costs 420.00 USD per month on an annual billing term and shares 1,000 responses across users, requiring careful demand planning.
Con: Dashboards support 24 languages compared with more than 70 for surveys, which may constrain multilingual reporting.

Alternatives

For organizations comparing survey and feedback tools, the Qwary offers a freemium model, a free trial, and a Starter plan priced at 199.00 USD per month billed annually, with specified monthly allowances for AI conversations, video feedback, and digital experiences. Feedbackly may suit buyers who want response-based plans, including a Single plan at 249.00 EUR per month billed monthly for 5,000 responses per year and one user; it has no free plan.

Alchemer is another freemium, API-listed option, with a free plan and paid plans whose prices are custom. QuestionPro offers a free Essentials plan with one user, 200 responses per survey, and 30 question types, or an Advanced plan at 99.00 USD per month billed annually. For those considering broader feedback and experience categories, browse Voice of Customer Software, Candidate Experience Software, Customer Experience Management Software, Customer Experience Analytics Software, Course Evaluation Software, and Employee Experience Management Software.

Alida has a paid platform subscription with unlimited surveys, usability tests, and research activities, using fixed subscription pricing rather than per-participant fees. Hello Customer uses custom, volume-based pricing rather than per-seat pricing and notes market-research limitations. CustomerGauge has a flat platform fee based on account base and activated modules, with unlimited surveys, users, and integrations. Thematic starts with a Foundation plan at 25000.00 USD per year, including up to 25,000 comments, three datasets, full platform access, 24/7 support, and an assigned Customer Success Manager.

Verdict

Choose Qualtrics if you need a capable research platform that can pair conditional surveys with advanced analysis and scale into enterprise programs. Its strongest case is the combination of rich research workflows and generous collaboration capacity on paid plans. Look elsewhere if the annual $5,040 commitment and shared response ceiling do not match your expected volume, or if the free account’s tight capacity is all you can use.
