Overview

Veryfi Invoices OCR API converts invoice documents into structured data for software workflows. It is best suited to teams building accounts-payable, bill-pay, or purchase-order matching processes. Its broad extraction and document-integrity checks are compelling, but the $500 monthly minimum makes the paid starting point a serious commitment.

The API returns invoice fields in JSON alongside recognized OCR text. It accepts PDFs and images and is designed to extract data across different invoice layouts, geographies, and languages. That combination suits developers who need to feed invoice information into downstream applications rather than handle each invoice as a separate file.

Key features

Structured extraction and OCR

Veryfi says the API supports over 150 fields, including supplier, line-item, tax, payment, and total data. Line-item extraction and PO matching are supported, so the service can serve workflows that need to connect invoice details with purchasing processes, not just capture text. Returning OCR text as well as structured values gives downstream systems another way to use the document content.

Document integrity and workflow connections

The API describes checks for altered or duplicate invoices, including digital tampering analysis, PDF layer analysis, and duplicate detection. These checks can flag issues in an accounts-payable flow, but should be treated as part of a review process rather than a substitute for it. SDKs and code samples cover Python, Node.js, PHP, C#, and Java, among other languages; n8n and Zapier integrations offer a route into workflow automation.

Veryfi states that its platform is SOC 2 Type II certified and uses TLS 1.2 and 1.3, salted password hashing, and AES encryption at rest and in transit. It says it complies with GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA, and will sign a BAA upon request. API documentation, FAQs, human expert support, and a free demo are also offered.

Page limit

A transaction covers one document of up to 15 pages. Longer documents need a custom account configuration, so organizations processing lengthy invoice packets should confirm that arrangement before committing to a plan.

Pricing

Veryfi uses a freemium model, with a free plan and paid pricing from $500/mo. The free plan is billed monthly and allows up to 100 documents per month at $0 per invoice. That is a useful ceiling for a small proof of concept, but it is not a large-scale processing allowance.

Starter costs 500.00 USD per month, billed monthly with a $500/mo minimum commitment. It charges $0.16 per invoice and covers 0–25,000 transactions per month, with a 15-page maximum per transaction. The commitment makes this a poor fit for low-volume users who need only occasional extraction; it is aimed at teams able to justify a recurring processing budget. Growth offers volume discounts, unlimited storage, custom data retention, and SLA options with custom pricing. It is the plan to discuss when volume or retention requirements outgrow Starter.

A free trial is available. The 15-page transaction limit still matters across plans unless a custom account configuration is arranged.

Platforms

Veryfi supports API access, web, Android, and iOS. The API and developer resources make it most directly relevant to teams incorporating invoice processing into their own software, while mobile and web support broaden access to the platform.

Who it's for

Accounts-payable and bill-pay teams, and developers implementing three-way purchase-order matching, are the clearest fit. The API is particularly attractive when a business needs field-level invoice data plus OCR text, and wants duplicate or tampering checks in the same document workflow. Smaller operations with modest monthly volume may find the free allowance enough to evaluate the service, but the Starter commitment is difficult to justify without sustained usage.

Pros and cons

Pros: Over 150 supported fields and line-item extraction can cover detailed invoice workflows, not only header capture.
Pros: OCR text accompanies structured JSON, giving downstream applications both recognized text and extracted values.
Pros: Duplicate and tampering checks address invoice integrity concerns, with SDKs, code samples, and automation integrations supporting implementation.
Pros: A free plan allows up to 100 documents monthly, providing room for limited evaluation.
Cons: Starter carries a $500/mo minimum commitment, a steep entry point for low-volume users.
Cons: Transactions are capped at 15 pages unless a custom configuration is arranged, which can complicate processing longer documents.
Cons: The free plan's 100-document monthly cap is too limited for sustained processing at scale.

Alternatives

Verdict

Veryfi Invoices OCR API is a strong fit for teams building accounts-payable, bill-pay, or PO-matching workflows that need detailed structured extraction, OCR text, and invoice-integrity checks. The main reason to choose it is that breadth in a developer-oriented API; the main reason to look elsewhere is the $500 monthly minimum, especially if your volume is small or documents routinely exceed 15 pages.
