Overview

TongFlow’s canvas supports adding, transforming, combining, splitting and batching materials in one workflow. Its scope covers text, images, audio, video, 3D and documents, making it an orchestration layer rather than a single-purpose video editor. Text-to-video, image-to-video and AI-avatar features address common generative-video tasks, and commercial use is permitted.

Compatible models can be swapped without rebuilding the workflow. That is valuable when a provider’s quality, availability or cost changes, but every run still depends on the required plugins and provider credentials. Providers named in the privacy policy include Modal, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, OpenAI and DeepSeek, and those services may process workflow inputs. Model APIs and GPU compute are billed separately by connected providers; TongFlow does not sell generation credits, so budgets must include those external charges.

Key features

Multimodal workflow canvas: Combining and batching six material types supports pipelines that move between documents, text, images, audio and video without splitting the process across unrelated tools.
Model switching: Compatible models can be changed while the workflow remains intact, reducing rework when teams compare providers or need a different cost or output profile.
Generative video and avatars: Text-to-video, image-to-video and AI-avatar support covers several production routes, although plugin compatibility and provider credentials determine what can actually run.
Open-source core: The self-hosted edition includes all modalities, combine nodes and the official plugin catalog, giving technical users control over deployment and storage.
Cloud isolation: TongFlow Cloud provides per-user data isolation and encrypted credentials. Hosted processing can include account identity, workflow data, uploads, outputs and operational logs.

Pricing

Self-Host — $0.00 USD, free forever: This is the best fit for technical users who can operate their own machines and want the open-source core without a subscription. Workflows and materials stay in a local SQLite file and local disk, with no telemetry to project authors according to the privacy policy. You take on hosting and maintenance yourself, and provider API or GPU charges still apply.

Cloud — $2.99 USD per month: The plan adds a managed hosted workspace, browser access, macOS and Windows desktop apps, per-user isolation and encrypted credentials. New cloud accounts receive seven days without a card; eligible first-time subscribers can then start a separate seven-day, card-required trial. It suits teams that value a ready-to-use workspace, but the low subscription price is not an all-in generation allowance.

TongFlow Cloud — $2.99 USD per month: This managed workspace includes plugins, while model API and GPU costs remain billed by the connected providers. Treat it as workspace access rather than prepaid usage.

Enterprise — custom pricing: Enterprise discussions cover deployment requirements, existing-system integrations, rollout and support needs. It is the appropriate route for organizations that need those services rather than a standard individual subscription.

Platforms

TongFlow offers API access, web access, self-hosting, macOS and Windows. The desktop app opens the cloud workspace in a dedicated window and requires an internet connection, so it is not a replacement for the offline self-hosted setup.

Who it's for

Choose TongFlow if you need one repeatable pipeline spanning several media types, want to change models without reconstructing workflows, or have the technical capacity to manage plugins, credentials and provider accounts. Self-hosting is especially suited to teams prioritizing local control and minimal subscription cost. Cloud is better for users who prefer managed access and desktop clients. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a single provider, fixed all-in usage pricing or a purely offline desktop generator.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad material coverage: Text, images, audio, video, 3D and documents can participate in the same workflow.
Provider flexibility: Switching compatible models preserves the workflow structure.
Cost-conscious entry: Self-Host is free forever, and Cloud starts at $2.99 per month with a seven-day sign-up trial.
Deployment choice: Local storage and no project-author telemetry support self-hosting, while Cloud adds isolation and encrypted credentials.

Cons

External costs are unavoidable: Provider model and GPU charges sit outside the subscription.
Setup dependencies: Workflows require compatible plugins and the credentials those providers demand.
Hosted privacy trade-off: Cloud may process identity, workflow content, uploads, outputs and operational logs.
Desktop internet requirement: The macOS and Windows app opens the online workspace rather than providing an offline cloud client.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist of video-focused tools, see AI video generators.

AKOOL is a freemium alternative with API, macOS, web and Windows access.
Animaker fits users who want basic animation tools, limited premium assets and watermarked exports on its free plan.
HeyGen is a choice for a free allowance of up to three one-minute videos per month.
Pika offers web, iOS and API access with a free tier based on packs and parallel-generation limits.
TikTok Symphony Creative Studio is a free option with weekly video-generation credits and no credit requirement for several other functions.
Vidu focuses on text-to-video, image-to-video and reference-based generation.
Powtoon suits presentation-style animation, with a free watermarked plan and a $15.00-per-month Lite plan.
Wavel AI is a paid API service whose free access is a seven-day, 15-credit, watermarked trial.

Verdict

TongFlow is a strong choice for technical creators and teams that want an adaptable, multimodal workflow layer with provider freedom and a genuinely free self-hosted core. Choose Cloud when managed access matters more than local control. Look elsewhere if you need predictable bundled generation costs, minimal setup dependencies or an offline desktop-first experience.
