Overview

The product brings together a real-time model of the Solar System, sky simulation and reference content about celestial objects. That range makes it a useful introduction to how planets, moons, stars and constellations fit together, rather than a specialist tool for a single task. INOVE develops the product; its About page describes the team as mostly from an EU software company.

Privacy deserves consideration, particularly for mobile sky viewing. The policy says the service may collect personal, usage and location data, names Google Analytics, Firebase and Unity Analytics, and lists Google and Unity advertising services. It says payment card details go directly to third-party processors and are not stored or collected by INOVE, while cautioning that absolute data security cannot be guaranteed.

Key features

Planetary model and encyclopedia

The 3D encyclopedia covers planets, dwarf planets, major moons and more. Realistic visualizations give learners a visual reference alongside the related facts, making the product more useful for exploration than a simple object list. The model also represents object positions in real time. The maker says its calculations use NASA-published orbital parameters and can simulate positions at any time.

Night sky and mobile pointing

The sky view shows stars and constellations from a location on Earth and can simulate skies from the past or future. On mobile, pointing the device toward the sky helps identify constellations and celestial objects. This combination suits casual observing and learning, though the product’s stated strengths are visualization and reference rather than specialized observation workflows.

Maps and learning material

Planet and moon maps draw on NASA elevation and imagery data, with colors tuned using spacecraft and Hubble imagery. That gives the visual material a scientific reference point without making it a substitute for specialist research tools. The Android encyclopedia is available in 19 languages, a practical advantage for learners who prefer to study in another language.

Embedding and textures

The maker supplies iframe code for embedding the model on a website, with a minimum resolution of 500 by 400 pixels. It also offers planetary and space textures for 3D rendering or image viewing. These additions extend the product’s usefulness to site owners and people working with visual assets, although they are separate from the core sky-viewing appeal.

Pricing

The pricing model is freemium, with two free entry points and a one-time desktop purchase. The Free online version costs 0.00 USD per free and runs in a desktop browser with WebGL; listed browser versions include Chrome 57, Firefox 52 and Safari 10.1. It is the straightforward choice for desktop users who have a compatible browser and do not need offline access.

The Mobile Version costs 0.00 USD per free on Android and iOS, with optional in-app purchases. It is the fit for people who want the mobile sky-pointing feature, but the free price does not mean every purchase is included. The Desktop App costs 9.80 USD per once for Windows and Mac. It adds fullscreen and offline mode, making it the relevant upgrade for users who want to explore without an internet connection; it requires at least 300 MB of free disk space.

Platforms

Solar System Scope supports Android, iOS, macOS, web and Windows. The free browser version needs WebGL and the listed browser versions; the desktop app page gives Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Mac OS X as minimum operating-system requirements and 2 GB RAM. Offline access is associated with the paid desktop app, so platform coverage does not mean every edition offers the same capabilities.

Who it's for

This is a good match for curious learners, families and casual sky-watchers who want a visual path from the Solar System to the night sky. Mobile users gain a way to point at the sky, while desktop users can choose a free browser edition or pay once for fullscreen offline use. It is a weaker fit for people whose priority is a dedicated observing workflow rather than accessible models and reference content.

Pros and cons

Broad visual scope: planetary models, an encyclopedia and a simulated night sky serve learners who want to move between related subjects in one product.
Useful free access: browser and mobile editions let users start without a purchase, while optional mobile in-app purchases and the paid desktop tier make the free-versus-paid distinction worth checking.
Offline desktop option: a 9.80 USD one-time purchase adds offline mode and fullscreen viewing for users who do not want to depend on a connection.
Location and analytics considerations: the privacy policy allows collection of location and usage data and names analytics and advertising services, which may matter to privacy-conscious mobile users.

Alternatives

Astronomy Apps is a broader directory for comparing astronomy options. Choose Cosmic Watch if you want its sky, Earth and Solar System views, sky guide, layers, star names, world clock and notifications, or NASA Eyes if you want a free browser-based option that requires an internet connection. Night Sky is another freemium alternative; Star Chart may suit users who want its stated free plan with every feature and upgrade included and no subscriptions or paywalls. Luminos Pro is an alternative with a free trial and paid subscription options, while SkySafari is a paid alternative with a free trial and tiered one-time plans. Seestar App and UNISTELLAR App are also free alternatives.

Verdict

Choose Solar System Scope if you want an accessible visual introduction to planets and the night sky, especially with free web or mobile access and a paid offline desktop option. Its main advantage is combining models, sky simulation and reference content across platforms. Look elsewhere if your priority is a specialized observing tool, or if the policy’s collection of location and usage data is a concern.
