Overview

Superwhisper works wherever text can be entered, with Slack, Cursor, and Notion among its named integrations. Its Super Mode reads the screen and adapts dictated text to the app: an email can come out as a message, while a coding prompt can take a more technical form. That can cut down on reformatting across different tasks; for people who want a literal transcript, the contextual layer may be unnecessary.

Speaker identification and labeling are supported, and the product also covers meeting recording and transcription. The CLI can search and export transcripts, report recording statistics, and start a local MCP server for AI workflows. Coding plugins are offered for Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex, and Pi, giving technical users additional ways to bring voice and transcript workflows into their tools.

Key features

Context-aware formatting: Super Mode tailors speech to the active app. It is useful for users dictating both conversational text and technical material, but less compelling if all they need is straightforward speech recognition.
Language support: More than 100 languages, automatic detection, and translation between languages make it suitable for multilingual dictation. Translation to English is a Pro feature, so that specific workflow requires a paid plan.
Local and cloud processing: On-device speech models work without an internet connection and keep audio on the device. For cloud models, audio and text pass through Superwhisper’s proxy to the provider; Superwhisper says they are not retained for training. Users who need offline processing can choose local models, while cloud options involve sending content through that route.
File transcription: Pro handles audio and video files. That makes the paid tier relevant to people who need more than live dictation, while the free plan covers voice-to-text and meeting recording and transcription.
Security and compliance: The Trust Center lists SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, and PIPEDA compliance. Those credentials may matter to organizations evaluating the product, alongside Enterprise’s model access controls and enterprise-hosted models.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes voice-to-text in any app, meeting recording and transcription, 100+ languages, unlimited Whisper models, and email support. Pro features can be tried for 3,000 words; after that, free-tier features remain available. This is a useful way to assess the paid capabilities without losing the basic free plan, but the trial is capped by word count rather than a stated number of days.

Pro is 8.49 USD per month, billed monthly, or 84.99 USD per year, billed annually. Both plans include cloud and local AI models, custom API keys, audio and video transcription, and priority support. The monthly option costs more over a year than the annual price, while annual billing asks for a longer commitment. The separately named Pro plan also describes own AI API keys, unlimited cloud and local AI models, and translation to English; check the plan terms that apply before choosing, particularly if translation is essential.

Pro Lifetime is 249.99 USD per month, billed as one payment, and includes Pro features with a one-time license. The wording combines a monthly amount with a one-time payment, so confirm the checkout terms before treating it as a lifetime purchase at that price. Enterprise has custom pricing and adds SOC 2 Type II certification, centralized billing and authentication, model access control, enterprise-hosted models, and volume discounts. Its organizational controls make it the relevant option for teams, rather than individual users comparing monthly plans.

Platforms

Superwhisper is available for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. The download page specifies macOS 13.3 or later, Windows 10 or later, and iOS 18 or later; Android downloads are linked through Google Play. Check those minimum versions against the devices you plan to use before committing to a workflow across platforms.

Who it's for

Superwhisper is a strong fit for people who dictate across messaging, note-taking, and coding apps, especially if they want speech shaped to each task rather than copied verbatim. Multilingual users can benefit from its broad language support, and people who need offline operation can use local speech models. Pro is the more relevant choice for users transcribing audio or video files, using custom API keys, or needing priority support. Teams that require centralized administration or enterprise-hosted models should consider Enterprise. Someone seeking only basic dictation may find the free plan sufficient and have little reason to pay for context formatting or file transcription.

Pros and cons

Pro: Super Mode adapts dictated text to the active app, which is useful when switching between messages and technical prompts.
Pro: Local speech models work offline and keep audio on-device, giving privacy-conscious users a processing option that does not require sending audio to a cloud provider.
Pro: More than 100 languages, automatic detection, speaker labeling, and transcript tools cover a broader workflow than dictation alone.
Con: The Pro-feature trial ends after 3,000 words, so users need to evaluate paid capabilities within a fixed usage limit.
Con: Audio and video file transcription, custom API keys, and priority support require Pro, limiting the free plan for heavier transcription workflows.
Con: Minimum OS versions matter: iOS 18 or later and macOS 13.3 or later exclude devices that do not meet those requirements.

Verdict

Choose Superwhisper if you want dictation that adapts to the app and task, plus local offline models and transcript tools. Its strongest case is the combination of context formatting and flexible processing; look elsewhere if you only need basic voice-to-text, or if the 3,000-word Pro trial and paid file transcription do not fit your needs.
