Overview

vidIQ focuses on helping creators grow YouTube channels with keyword research, competitor analysis, channel audits and metadata optimization. Keyword Research combines scores, estimated search volume and competition with related keywords, matching terms and questions. That range can help creators assess a topic from several angles, while Competitors supports comparisons of channel performance. vidIQ does not offer rank tracking, so creators who need that capability should look elsewhere.

Connecting a YouTube channel requires permission to view analytics and manage videos and playlists. vidIQ says it uses multi-factor authentication so only the channel owner can make channel modifications, and describes itself as a certified YouTube service provider that prioritizes privacy and data security. Those safeguards are relevant, but creators should still decide whether the requested account access suits their comfort level.

Key features

Research and optimization

The browser extension adds video SEO scores, keyword recommendations, competitor research overlays and upload optimization tools. It can keep research close to the video workflow rather than requiring creators to rely on a separate research view. The free/basic plan, however, returns only three results per search for Keywords For You, Rising Keywords and Top Search Terms for Your Channel, limiting how much discovery a creator can do before considering a paid plan.

Mobile and AI credits

The iPhone and Android apps provide video research, content optimization and channel insights, giving creators access beyond the web and extension. AI credits are shared across supported tools, and refresh monthly on the sign-up or upgrade anniversary. That shared pool makes it important to consider how frequently multiple supported tools will be used, rather than treating each as a separate allowance.

Pricing

vidIQ uses a freemium model. Its free plan is free and includes 150 AI Credits monthly, three Keyword Research results per search, eight Outliers results per search and three Personalized Daily Ideas per day. Those caps make it a useful way to explore the service, but a limited option for creators who need broad research or a steady flow of ideas.

Max is 39.00 USD per year, billed yearly with a stated saving of $120. It includes 6,000 AI Credits monthly and unlimited insights. That may suit an individual creator who wants expanded insights and a larger credit allowance, though the annual billing is a meaningful commitment compared with a monthly plan.

Boost has custom pricing and is billed yearly, with cancellation available anytime. It includes 2,000 AI Credits monthly, unlimited trends research and unlimited subscriber insights. It is a potential fit for creators focused on trend and audience research, but its yearly term and custom pricing make it harder to compare with a fixed-price option.

Enterprise costs 799.00 USD per month and includes unlimited AI credits, up to three full-access seats and connections for up to five channels. Enterprise Pro costs 2500.00 USD per month, with up to eight full-access seats, up to 20 connected channels and Creator Discovery. Both are aimed at organizations with multiple channels; Enterprise Pro is the more appropriate tier when its larger seat and channel limits matter. Enterprise is described for brands, businesses, agencies and networks managing YouTube channels.

Enterprise Pro + YouTube Strategy has custom pricing. It includes a dedicated YouTube strategist, 60-minute bi-weekly strategy calls and coaching support on one identified channel. That added guidance may suit an organization seeking strategic support as well as tools, while the one-channel coaching scope is worth weighing against broader channel needs. Paid plans are described as starting from 19 /mo, but the plans with specific prices and terms above should be checked against the intended usage and billing commitment.

Platforms

vidIQ is available on the web, as a browser extension, and through Android and iOS apps. The extension’s optimization tools suit creators working in a desktop browser, while the mobile apps add research, optimization and channel insights away from it.

Who it's for

vidIQ is a strong fit for YouTube creators who regularly research keywords, compare competitor channels and optimize uploads, especially when they want web, extension and mobile access in one toolkit. Its organization-focused plans also address brands, businesses, agencies and networks managing several channels. It is a weaker fit for users who need rank tracking or who want to conduct substantial keyword research without moving beyond the free plan’s small result caps.

Pros and cons

Pros: Keyword Research brings scores, demand estimates, competition and related search ideas together, supporting topic evaluation from several angles.
Pros: Competitor comparisons, channel audits, metadata optimization and extension-based upload tools cover multiple parts of a YouTube workflow.
Pros: Web, extension and mobile access make the toolkit available across desktop and phone workflows.
Cons: The free plan limits key keyword categories to three results per search, which constrains sustained discovery.
Cons: Connecting a channel requires permissions to view analytics and manage videos and playlists, a meaningful consideration for account-conscious creators.
Cons: vidIQ has no rank tracking, and the higher-priced enterprise tiers may be more than a solo creator needs.

Alternatives

For a broader directory of tools focused on this category, browse YouTube SEO Tools; for thumbnail-focused options, see Video Thumbnail Makers.

TubeSpanner is worth considering for creators looking for a freemium web and extension option with a free trial, scripts and thumbnail designs alongside its free bio page. 1of10 may suit creators focused on outlier and thumbnail discovery, with a free plan capped at 60 monthly credits, one channel and five results for those searches.

Globeany YouTube Toolkit is a simpler option for free web-based YouTube research that requires no sign-in. TagYeti offers a free web tool with five daily runs without an account or 20 with a free account, making it a focused alternative for users who want capped daily runs and search history or favorites.

Vidlens may fit creators seeking an API or extension as well as web access; its free plan includes 30 AI credits monthly, one competitor channel and AI title, description, tags and keyword research. YTThumbnail is a free Android, iOS and web option for personal, non-commercial use that requires no registration or payment.

Rapidtags is a more focused web alternative for tag generation, keyword searches and video rank checks; its Starter plan is 6.00 USD per month and caps each at 25 tag generations, 25 keyword searches and 10 rank checks per day. VidiScoop is another alternative to consider.

Verdict

Choose vidIQ if YouTube keyword research, competitor comparisons and upload optimization are central to your workflow and you value access across web, extension and mobile. Its strongest case is the breadth of those connected creator tools; its main drawbacks are the free plan’s tight research caps, the permissions needed to connect a channel and the lack of rank tracking. Solo creators can start with Free, while organizations should compare channel and seat allowances carefully before choosing an enterprise tier.
