Overview

TripIt turns forwarded booking confirmations into organized travel itineraries, making it a strong fit for people who want reservations gathered with little manual sorting. Frequent flyers have an added reason to consider Pro, while travelers who need to attach many documents should weigh its per-trip caps.

Its broad booking coverage and offline access make it useful across complex trips. The free plan handles basic organization, but its three-document limit per trip leaves less room for supporting files; Pro raises that limit and adds flight tools.

Key features

Forward confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com or enable Inbox Sync, and TripIt builds an itinerary from them. It covers flights, hotels, rental cars, trains, airport shuttles, cruises, travel-agency bookings and event reservations. Confirmation emails from thousands of suppliers are supported in English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish, so the service can bring together varied bookings in one plan.

Itineraries can be accessed offline in the app, which is useful when traveling without a reliable connection. The Mac app also supports offline access, though it requires a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later. TripIt supports route planning, shared itineraries and calendar sync, and bookings made through SAP Concur can sync automatically.

Pro adds real-time alerts for delays, cancellations, connections, gate changes and baggage claim information. It also offers rebooking options across available airlines after a delay or cancellation, plus interactive airport maps for 103 airports worldwide. Those tools make the paid plan more compelling for frequent flyers; occasional travelers may get enough from itinerary organization alone.

On mobile devices, TripIt encrypts sensitive personal information and restricts access by passcode. Support is a weaker point for people who want to talk through a problem: TripIt does not offer phone support and aims to respond to billing tickets within one business day.

Pricing

TripIt uses a freemium model, with a free plan, a 30-day trial and Pro at $49/yr. The free TripIt plan is free and allows three document uploads per trip. It suits travelers whose confirmations cover most of their needs and who only occasionally add supporting files; the cap can be restrictive for trips with several vouchers or documents.

TripIt Pro costs 49.00 USD per year, billed $49 PER YEAR, and allows 25 document uploads per trip. It is the better fit for travelers who need more room for trip files or expect to use flight alerts, alternate-flight options and airport maps. The free plan gives up those Pro flight tools and has a substantially lower document allowance. The 30-day trial offers a way to assess Pro before paying.

Platforms

TripIt is available on Android, iOS, macOS and the web, with web as its primary platform. Offline itinerary access is supported in the app, including the Mac app on Apple M1 chips or later. The platform range suits travelers who want to manage plans on the web and refer to them on a phone or supported Mac.

Who it's for

TripIt is best for travelers who book through multiple suppliers and want confirmations assembled into a single itinerary, especially those who value offline access. Frequent flyers can justify Pro through its flight alerts and rebooking options. Travelers with only a few bookings may find the free plan sufficient, while people who rely on many uploaded documents should account for its three-file cap or consider Pro.

Pros and cons

Broad reservation coverage: It organizes flights, stays, transport and event reservations, making it useful for trips with more than air and hotel bookings.
Offline access: Itineraries remain available in the app without a connection, and the Mac app supports this too on M1-or-later Macs.
Useful Pro flight tools: Alerts, alternate-flight options and maps for 103 airports give frequent flyers practical reasons to upgrade.
Low free document allowance: Three uploads per trip may not suit travelers who keep multiple vouchers and travel documents alongside confirmations.
No phone support: People who prefer live help must use other support channels; billing tickets are targeted for a response within one business day.

Verdict

Choose TripIt if you want booking confirmations collected into an offline-ready itinerary, with Pro available for flight alerts, rebooking options and more document uploads. It is a particularly good fit for frequent flyers and trips with varied reservations. Look elsewhere if the free three-document cap is too tight or phone support is essential.
