Comparison between HTC Desire and HTC Desire S:

Operating System and CPU:

The HTC Desire runs on Android v 2.2 Froyo whereas the new HTC Desire S runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Old Desire users can only console themselves with the fact that Gingerbread doesn’t actually bring a vast amount of additional sophisticated features to Android. Both the devices are powered with Qualcomm CPU running at 1GHz, the improvements have been done to GPU and memory of Desire S – MSM8255 with 768MB, while old Desire had QSD8250 with 576MB memory.

The new HTC DESIRE S has 1.1GB internal memory plus microSD slot for further expanding option. Where the old Desire has 521MB plus microSD slot, the upgrade phone storage is fairly a significant difference.

Both the Desire models have huge 3.7 inch high quality screen for crystal clear viewing with maximum resolution 480×800 pixel resolution. HTC Desire S has a better S-LCD screen from Sony which is a significant improvement.

  1. Though this is an old article by now, I want to point out that the display info is incorrect. The original Desire started out with AMOLED screens, but switched over to SLCD (non-PenTile RGB screens) later on due to an AMOLED shortage.

The Desire S never had an AMOLED display at all; all Desire S phones have SLCD screens – which in my opinion IS an improvement.
