The Covid-19 Pandemic has seen many of us stuck at home for weeks on end. It has come as a surprise to a lot of people just how much they miss being able to go outside and live their normal lives. Thinking up different things to do in order to pass the time has been surprisingly difficult for many and this can lead to boredom and frustration.

Whether you are stuck inside due to the pandemic, or it’s just been raining for days on end, here are 8 fun activities to do at home.

1. Play Table Football

Table football (or foosball as it is often known) is a game which is very popular in sports bars around the world but can also be a great activity to play at home. The game can be played between two players or between two teams of players. They control plastic footballers attached to poles by flicking the handles to try and kick the ball into the goal. The first team to score ten points is the winner. Table football is a fast-paced game but it is super easy to play so players off all ages can take part.

2. Do Word Puzzles

Word puzzles are a great way to spend some time and also have real intellectual and mental benefits. Video games are the go-to activity for so many people, and despite them sometimes getting a bad reputation as being bad for children, they provide many benefits such as the opportunity to make online friends and to relieve stress. There is a huge range of fantastic online video games such as Apex Legends, Fifa Online, PUBG, and Fall Guys which all have huge followings. It is important that you are strict with yourself or your children about how many hours are spent playing as video game addiction is becoming an increasing problem.

4. Practice Yoga

Yoga is such a wonderful activity because it has physical, mental and emotional benefits. With many yoga studios being forced to close due to Covid-19, the popularity of home yoga practice has increased enormously. All you need to get started with yoga is a mat, some comfortable clothes, and the willingness to turn up and practice. There are even 30 day programs you can follow during which your skills will improve a little each day over the course of a month. 

5. Complete a Home Workout

As well as yoga, there are also some excellent home workouts online which you can follow along with. This has been very important for keeping people fit and healthy while the gyms and fitness centers have been shut. There are also some celebrity fitness trainers who you can follow along. Joe Wicks, a fitness trainer from the UK with millions of social media followers, did live “PE lessons” during the first UK Covid-19 lockdown to help the country to stay in shape. On YouTube, Chris Heria has some excellent full-body workouts which don’t require any equipment at all and so they are ideal for exercising at home.

6. Read a Book

There are few pleasures in life so simple or perfect as cozying up with your favorite book. So few of us have time these days to just relax and do a little reading so whenever the opportunity arises, you should grasp it with both hands. With eBooks readers and home book delivery available, it is now easier than ever to get your hands on some great reading material. Why not try setting yourself a challenge to read one book a week for the rest of the year? If you have children, make sure to read them a bedtime story every night as it is a great way to spend time together and will also help to develop their imagination. You can also start a book club with your friends in which you read a different book each week and then meet for a glass of wine to discuss it. If that isn’t possible right now where you live, a zoom meeting can work just as well.

7. Learn a Language

Another productive way to spend your time at home is to learn a new language. There are some really excellent apps like Duolingo which can provide the opportunity to study many different languages for free using only your mobile phone. Even total beginners can start from lesson one on the app and make real progress in just a few weeks. Learning a new language can open up many new doors when it comes to jobs, travel, and other opportunities.

8. Cook New Recipes 

Being able to cook is one of the most important life skills and learning some new recipes means that you can prepare a diverse menu for yourself and your family. There are so many different cooking guides and resources online that budding chefs really are spoiled for choice. One great tip is to subscribe to your favorite celebrity chef’s YouTube channels and follow along with their video tutorials. Gordon Ramsay has some really delicious recipes on his channel which are sure to make your family or guests happy.

There are so many fantastic activities which you can do at home both alone and with other people. With people all around the world needing to find ways to pass the time during lockdown, the activities in this guide can be a real blessing.
