Apple revamped the complete look and feel of iOS 7 at its WWDC 2013 event. It introduced most of the features which were missing from the previous versions of the iOS.
Finally taking the cue from Android, Apple has fulfilled the demands of many of its users by incorporating a Control Center which allows users to toggle WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode and brightness by simply swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Apple’s Do Not Disturband quick toggles for camera, flashlight, timer and calculator are a cherry on a pie.
The Notification Center can be accessed from the top of the home or lock screen and gives user notification in three different tabs- today, all and missed. As the name suggests, Today lets you suggest events, appointments, reminders, birthdays for today and Missed give you notifications from apps which got missed.
Pressing the home button twice will reveal the preview thumbnails of all apps you have open. It finally allows true multitasking between apps rather than switching between them. The apps can run in the backgroundand they learn to how you use these apps. For instance, if you read the news and check the weather in the morning, it will update this for you just before you check them usually.
Revamped Camera and Photos app
Apple has introduced a new square mode allowing users to create the common 4×4 images and apply preset filters before or after shooting the pictures. Swiping across the screen allows you to access modes – Still, Video, Pano (Panorama) and Square.
The Photos app brings navigation according to Collections, Moments and Years. Within each year, the photos get sorted based on events as Collections and within eachCollection, they get sorted according to location. iCloud Photo Sharing enables the shared photos to sync with everyone’s iOS Share Tab with whom you share.
Updated Safari Web Browser
Buttons and bars stay hidden until you scroll allowing a distraction free experience. Browsing now supports swipes for going back and forwardand URL bar now allows searching with suggestions. It can also remember the user credentials and credit card numbers through the iCloud Keychain. It also brings 256 bit AES security with it.
The same AirDrop that allows files to be transferred between two Mac computers on the same network now comes to the iPhone. It transfers via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth over an encrypted connection.
New Siri on iOS 7
Siri can now access Bing, Wikipedia and Twitter and offers a more natural speech voice – switchable between male and female. It can also control apps and phone settings.
App Store, Find my iPhone and more
The App Store finally allows the apps to be updated automatically and it also displays popular apps relevant to your location. It also offers a new Kids category for apps.
Find my iPhone allows the user to lock the lost iPhone from future activations. To turn off this feature, you need your Apple ID and password, making it difficult to use or sell a stolen iPhone.
Siri is the center of iOS for Car feature which will allow users to make and takecalls, control music and check mails and messages and will be introduced in selected cars in 2014.
