Facebook to update Timeline user interface again?

You must be hearing a lot about Facebook these days; right from the IPO to its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg getting married. However, after going public about whom interest soon fizzled out at the stock market, Facebook has quietly begun testing a new look for the Facebook Timeline feature which covers the user’s profile on his/her page.

The new Timeline view may just end up looking this way:

Comparatively, a snapshot of the present Timeline feature is captured as below:

As is visible, there have been significant changes in the layout and text alignment as the imminent details like name, location, occupation, education and other basic information of the user take place right upon the cover photo rather than being placed below it.

Just below the cover photo are a number of tabs which are condensed and linearly take place rather than displaying a collage of their content as the tab picture. The ‘Summary’ tab shows the list of all life events of the user while the likes tab is redesigned as the ‘Favorites’ tab. Other tabs like ‘Friends’, ‘Photos’ and ‘Map’ retain their place and are represented only by their official Facebook icons. The option to view the user’s activity is rolled up again on the cover photo

This new design of the Timeline indeed looks a bit more neat and classy from the present one while also holding all the important tabs and activities in the right place. However, Facebook declined to specify how many user profiles the new test would involve and if this test design would eventually take the place of the present Timeline design.

Do you like the new design?
