Twitter is one of the most popular social networks along with Facebook and Instagram. While its fun to use it and know more people, learn new things, there is an equally annoying experience there. Sometimes you get so many negative responses, its best to delete the account for good. In this guide, we will share how to delete or deactivate Twitter account

Note: If you don’t plan to come back at all, it is best that you change your username, to something else. That way someone else can use that name. However, if you have been on Twitter for long, it becomes a profile for you. So in that case, do not let go of the actual username.

How to delete or deactivate Twitter account

You can delete your twitter account either from the web or through the app (Android or iOS). The experience is almost the same, and you will need the account name and password.

Since you are sure by now to let go of the account, we suggest you download the archive of the tweets, and interaction till date. It can be found in the Settings and Privacy section.

  1. Go to Settings and privacy and scroll down till the end.
  2. Click on Deactivate your account link at the bottom of the page.
  3. It will take you to the account deactivation page. Then click Deactivate @username.
  4. Enter your password to confirm your identity, and proceed by clicking the Deactivate account button.

  1. In the app tap on the profile icon, and then tap on Settings and privacy.
  2. Tap Account, then tap Deactivate your account at the bottom.
  3. Read the account deactivation information, then tap Deactivate.
  4. Enter your password when prompted, and tap Deactivate.
  5. Confirm that you want to proceed by tapping Yes, deactivate.

Steps to delete or deactivate Twitter account from iPhone

  1. Tap on the profile icon > Settings and privacy > Account. 
  2. Tap on the Deactivate your account link at the bottom.
  3. Then tap Deactivate, and enter your password when prompted and tap deactivate again.
  4. Confirm that you want to proceed by tapping Yes, deactivate.
