i3D App brings glasses free 3D on iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and iPad 2

Two researchers from Laboratory of Informatics of Grenoble at the EHCI Research Group in France named as Jeremie Francone and Laurence Nigay, have developed a application which allows you to watch 3D on your 4th gen device namely iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and iPad 2. Hell, this won’t run on devices without front facing camera.

This app doesn’t work like other apps developed recently for obtaining 3D on iDevice, even this app doesn’t require any extra accessory like 3D Glasses to view 3D on you device. The concept behind this app is focused on the front facing camera. The front facing camera works as a tracker which tracks users head and as the user moves the objects on the screen also moves and get arranged in such a way that looking at it the user feels its 3D!

Here’s what the researchers say,

We track the head of the user with the front facing camera in order to create a glasses-free monocular 3D display. Such spatially-aware mobile display enables to improve the possibilities of interaction. It does not use the accelerometers and relies only on the front camera.

Its successful method to integrate 3D into Apple devices, it works flawless and without bugs. Performing a new innovation Apple will surely consider this technique for 3D integration and will design the hardware of next gen devices according to it.

Look at the demo video of the app,

Excited about it? Well, you can get that directly on your 4th gen Apple device and guess what the demo app is free! -Cheer’s

All you have to do is just download this app from App store its named as i3D and just sync into your device that’s it, then just calibrate your head and follow the steps and you are done!
