How to get iPhoto, iBooks and iMovie on iOS 5.0.1?

With the new iPad launch, Apple pushed iOS 5.1 software update for their existing users. With couple of changes, iOS 5.1 supports some native Apple apps like iPhoto, iMovie update and iBooks update. These apps don’t support iOS 5.0.1 and so the iOS 5.1 update is necessary. Then why not update to iOS 5.1?

The main reason for not updating to iOS 5.1 is absence of untethered jailbreak.

So here is a way to install iPhoto, iBooks and iMovie on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad running on iOS 5.0.1.

Note: Your device should be jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1. Before continuing make sure you have backup of all the necessary files which  you are going to modify.

Step One: Download and install iFile from Cydia store on your iDevice.

Step Two: Run iFile and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/.

Step Three: Scroll down the list, search for ‘SystemVersion.plist’ and run it.

Step Four: Change the following code,

<key>ProductVersion</key>
    <string>5.0.1</string>
to
<key>ProductVersion</key>
    <string>5.1</string>

Step Five: Save it! Close the iFile and respring your device.

That’s it! Now AppStore thinks you are running iOS 5.1 and allows you to install iPhoto, iMovie and iBooks.

If you face any issues with iBooks, search for ‘iBooks Fix for iOS 5’ in Cydia and install it.

With this you can easily install or run update for iBooks and iMovie but running iPhoto requires another fix as it may crash after following the above trick. To do that follow,

Step One: Open Cydia Store and navigate to Search tab.

Step Two: Search for ‘iPhoto501Fix’ and install it.

Step Three: Respring your device.

You are done with everything. You can enjoy iPhoto on your device running iOS 5.0.1.
