Motorola Xyboard 8.2 – Tech Specs, Review and Price

The list of devices running upon Android Honeycomb OS seems to go on swelling as another great tablet sporting Android Version 3.0 is finally here. After announcing its concept, Motorola has released a great descendant to its Xoom, Motorola Droid Xyboard.

As Motorola Xoom, being one of the best options in tablet market offered much varied and useful functionality, Droid Xyboard promises to go one step further. We call it Xyboard just for the sake of other people calling it by this name, else this is next version of Xoom and so we might do well with Xoom 2.

The Motorola Droid Xyboard sports an impressive design with a decent screen size. The only thing that might prevent you from getting your hands on this beauty is its price. This device will cost you $430 for 16GB version and $530 for 32GB version provided you sign a two year data contract.

Let us now strip every aspect of it down.

Motorola Xyboard 8.2 Design

The 8.2-inches version of Xyboard is lightweight tablet, surpassing other variants of Xoom and even surprisingly iPad 2. But iPad 2 has managed to retain its top place when it comes down to thickness. The tablet is covered with rubber material around its edges thus ensuring integrity of body. But what mar the beauty of tablet are those screws located on back panel facing the user through aluminum body. We didn’t understand why Motorola has chosen to hide two buttons, viz. on/off and volume control from users as both the buttons are situated on back side of edges. Otherwise it is a finely designed tablet from Motorola leaved no doubt about quality.

Motorola Xyboard 8.2 Software Features

The tablet comes with Android Honeycomb OS which is upgradable in Ice-Cream Sandwich (4.0). It is pro-loaded with some applications by Motorola and Verizon like MotoPack – an organized app store, MotoCast – a feature using which you can stream or download movies and photos alike from your PC to Xyboard. It also features V Cast Apps – an app store tailored exclusively for Verizon devices. Though it lacks few features, it does well on OS side without any surprise.

Motorola Xyboard 8.2 Hardware Specs

The Droid Xyboard is packed with all sorts of tablet configuration which we are now compulsory if it want to take on other tabs. It is equipped with an 8.2-inches IPS capacitive screen, providing resolution of 1280×800 pixels which is really impressive, a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB Ram and decent expandable memory.

Motorola Xyboard 8.2 Price

There are many tablets offering functionality as Xyboard at much lower price. The Motorola Droid Xyboard is priced at $430 for 16GB version and that too only if you sign a two year contract; so original price may shoot up to $600.

Otherwise if you want to go for 4G speed, this is one of the best picks of the year.
