After the launch of the most hyped HD tablet Nexus 7, we now have detailed specifications for the Amazon’s next generation Kindle Fire tablets. As per a previous report by BGR, Amazon was looking to upgrade their Kindle tablet range, and we now have detailed specifications about the tablets from the same source. The source says that the tablet could actually be launched as soon as late September.
According to a latest report by BGR, the new Kindle Fire HD tablets will be powered by the best of the best Snapdragon 800 SoC. The 7 inch Kindle Fire HD tablet will have a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and will be powered by Qualcomm’s quad core processor clocked at 2GHz with four Krait 400 CPUs and an extraordinary Adreno 330 GPU. It will be backed up by 2 GB of RAM and a front facing camera. All usual connectivity options including Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity will be on board. The tablet will ship with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB internal storage variants and will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS with heavy UI customization on top by Amazon.
The larger brother 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HD tablet will sport a 2560×1600 resolution display as per the previous report. The latest report adds that it will also be powered by Snapdragon 800 quad core CPU and will feature the same front facing camera, optional cellular data support, same storage options and 2 GB of RAM. A value addition will be a 8 MP camera slapped on the rear.
Both the tablets will receive an upgrade in the overall look and build quality, which was also noted in the previous details by BGR. They will also be more comfortable and lighter than the previous models. The BGR’s sources tell that the bezel around the screen on the 7 inch tablet will be about half an inch and 8.9 inch tablet will be about three-quarters of an inch wide. The specifications and details of the entry level Kindle Fire tablet are still not known except for their storage variants of 8/16/32 GB.
If these specifications are confirmed, it will be a huge leap for Amazon. We do not expect the price to be affordable as most of the competitors including Google and Samsung who have already launched their tablets and Amazon will now be competing with Apple’s upcoming tablets. The BGR also cited that they expect that the new tablets will cost at least $100 more than their predecessors. The USP is that Amazon will offer premium hardware with a big and renowned ecosystem for content, which could set it apart from its competitors. Amazon did not respond to a query by BGR.
