The record

Purpose: autotax categorises bank statement transactions, calculates South African income tax, and helps prepare and submit returns to SARS.
Returns supported: The service supports IRP6 provisional, ITR12 individual, and ITR14 one-person Pty Ltd returns.
Workflow: Users upload PDF bank statements, review categorised transactions, and approve returns before submission; the service says it never auto-submits.
Bank statement sources: The site lists PDF statements from FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Absa, Capitec, Investec, TymeBank, and Discovery Bank.
Integrations: Settled Auto can forward statement emails using user-configured Gmail or Outlook filters and supports the eight listed South African banks.
Tax categorisation: Transactions are categorised against a SARS-aligned chart of accounts, and uncertain items are flagged for user confirmation.
Security: The security page describes column-level AES-256-GCM encryption, per-user data isolation, passkey-only authentication, and append-only audit logs.
Data handling: The maker says uploaded statements are deleted within 24 hours after processing and that data remains in South Africa.
AI privacy: The FAQ says Anthropic Claude is used for transaction categorisation, that Anthropic does not train on data sent through its commercial API, and that autotax sends transaction descriptions and amounts without PII.
Support: The security page lists [email protected] for vulnerability reports and says it acknowledges reports within 48 hours.
Eligibility: The terms describe eligibility as South African tax residents who are individuals, sole proprietors, or one-person Pty Ltds with annual turnover under R1 million.
Notable limits: The maker lists VAT, payroll, trust returns, multi-employee company returns, multi-signatory consent flows, and native mobile apps as future roadmap items.
Platform availability: The pricing page says autotax currently ships as mobile-responsive web and lists native mobile apps as future work.
