The record

Purpose: Case It provides a framework for collaborative case-based learning in molecular biology.
Simulation: Case It v705 performs common laboratory procedures on DNA or protein sequences.
Lab procedures: Listed procedures include qPCR, SNP and expression microarrays, restriction enzyme digestion, gel electrophoresis, PCR, ELISA, Southern and Western blots, and dot blots.
CRISPR features: The software supports plasmid DNA, 5′-labelled gels, and searching and viewing restriction enzyme sites, including Cas9 sites, in double-stranded DNA.
Bioinformatics: Case It integrates with bioinformatics software and websites for sequence alignment and tree-building.
Sequence search: The project lists sequence search capabilities as useful for undergraduate research applications.
Included cases: The download includes DNA and protein sequences referenced by case descriptions, covering subjects such as genetic and infectious diseases.
Mobile access: Case It Mobile offers selected cases on smartphones and tablets through case scenarios and videos of simulated procedures, without downloading v705.
Mobile limitation: Cases not converted to mobile format and use of custom sequences require downloading Case It v705.
Operating systems: The project says v705 runs on current Windows and Mac operating systems and documents an M-series Mac setup using UTM and Windows 11 Pro.
Download access: Students, instructors, and IT professionals can download the software free for educational use after submitting a form; the page says names and email addresses are kept confidential.
Maker credits: The credits page names Mark Bergland, Karen Klyczek, and Chi-Cheng Lin for software and says Case It Software is authored with Director MX.
