The record

Purpose: CLARA is an AI research assistant for exploring, searching, and analyzing archival documents related to corporate litigation and climate accountability.
Search corpus: CLARA searches more than 1.4 million pages across curated fossil fuel, chemical and benzene, pharmaceutical, and food industry collections.
Citations: Answers include citations linking to specific pages in original documents so users can check the sources.
Document uploads: Users can upload PDFs, Word documents, text files, and images, with a 50 MB per-file limit and 200 MB total storage limit.
Workspace: The personal Workspace supports research notes and documents, and CLARA can create structured documents there from chat prompts.
Version history: CLARA keeps a history of changes to Workspace files so users can restore an earlier version.
Usage limit: Daily credits reset every 24 hours, unused credits do not carry over, and the allowance may change over time.
AI caveat: CLARA says AI answers can be inaccurate or incomplete and advises users to verify the citations independently.
Security: The Privacy Policy describes HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, AWS Cognito authentication, and per-user data isolation.
AI data processing: Conversation messages and accessed file content are processed by OpenAI models through Amazon Bedrock in AWS US East, while search reranking uses Cohere through Bedrock in AWS US West.
Data retention: Conversations and files remain for the lifetime of the account unless users delete them; users can request account deletion.
Support: Users can contact the CLARA team at [email protected] for questions or help.
Intended users: CLARA is aimed at people researching corporate accountability, public health, and environmental issues, including researchers, lawyers, journalists, students, NGO staff, and policymakers.
Mobile access: CLARA works on phones and tablets in a web browser, with no app required.
