The record

Purpose: It helps users find relevant peer-reviewed research on Oxford Academic using natural-language queries.
Results: Each response returns ten content recommendations, with two-line synopses when an original abstract is available.
Follow-up: Users can ask follow-up questions for more detail or to clarify their intent.
Technology: The assistant uses a retrieval-augmented generation system and ChatGPT 4o-mini, grounding results in Oxford Academic content metadata.
Scope: It searches Oxford Academic metadata and does not search the wider web.
Filters: Prompts can filter by book, chapter, journal, article, DOI, ISBN, and publication date.
Limits: Users cannot upload documents, and content older than 20 years may be harder to surface than with traditional search.
Language: The assistant can respond to prompts in languages other than English, but it is optimized for English and references content primarily written in English.
Conversation history: Conversation history is not kept, and users must copy information they want to retain.
Privacy: Oxford Academic says prompts are not used to train the assistant and conversation histories are not recorded.
Security: The page says messages are encrypted with TLS and that IP addresses are monitored for abuse, while listed usage statistics include message timestamps, retrieved sources, anonymized identifiers, and feedback.
Access: The assistant supports current versions of Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome and is designed for screens including smartphones.
Authentication: Institutional access options listed include IP authentication, Shibboleth, OpenAthens, referring URL authentication, and library card login; EZproxy is not yet supported by many proxy services.
Usage reporting: Assistant results are not yet included in COUNTER or other usage statistics, but visits to source content are captured as usual.
