The record

Purpose: Proofly is a Chrome extension for writing assistance, proofreading, and grammar correction that processes text on-device.
Corrections: It checks spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, prepositions, and missing words.
Languages: It supports the languages provided by Chrome’s built-in Gemini Nano model.
Editing tools: It offers inline suggestions, auto-correct and manual modes, a sidebar, keyboard shortcuts, and undo/redo.
Customization: Users can configure correction types, highlight colors, underline styles, and keyboard shortcuts.
Integrations: It works with input fields, textareas, and contenteditable elements, and includes a right-click context menu and Chrome side panel.
Privacy: The maker says Proofly does not collect or transmit user data and processes proofreading locally; the AI model must be downloaded initially.
Security: The project describes minimal Chrome permissions, a strict content security policy, Shadow DOM isolation, and bundled assets.
Offline use: Proofly works offline after the initial AI model download, which the privacy policy says is about 22 GB.
Requirements: Proofly requires Chrome 141 or later and a device capable of running Chrome’s built-in AI models; the README lists Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, and Linux.
Availability: The README describes Chrome Web Store installation as coming soon and gives instructions for manual installation from a GitHub release.
Support: The maker directs users to GitHub Issues for bug reports and feature requests and GitHub Discussions for questions.
Project status: The maker’s retrospective describes the project as alpha and says it had not yet been battle-tested extensively.
