SAMSUNG Galaxy R – Impressions, Tech Specs, Release Date and Pricing

After the success of Galaxy S II, Samsung took the wraps off the all new Galaxy R last week. Looking at the specs and design it seems Galaxy R is nothing but the lower version of Galaxy S II made for those who cannot afford it. Galaxy R belongs to the same category of mid-end smart phones from Samsung and stands next to Galaxy SL.  It was leaked a while ago and was rumored as Galaxy Z.

Internal Hardware

Galaxy R sports Cortex-A9 processor along with Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset clocked at 1GHz unlike Galaxy S II at 1.2GHz but dual-core architecture like the Galaxy S II. The major degradation in the internal hardware is the display panel (the cost reducing factor) Galaxy R is displayed on SC-LCD display panel instead of Super AMOLED Plus featuring vivid colors also the screen size is reduced by 0.1inch and made 4.2inch. There is no info regarding the memory yet. General connectivity includes 2G as well as 3G HSDPA with WiFi as well as  Bluetooth.

Internal memory is made mono with 8GB version only but its favored with microSD card slot for additional expansion of storage memory.

Primary Camera is reduced from 8MP (Galaxy S II) to 5MP for Galaxy R shooting pics at  2592х1944 pixels keeping intact the secondary features like autofocus, LED flash. There is no additional information regarding the secondary camera but it’s present. Video recording resolution is also lowered to 720p where Galaxy S II still records at 1080p that’s actually semi of it.

One good thing is it also runs on Gingerbread (Android 2.3) unlike the low end version of Galaxy S running on Froyo. However it was obvious that Gingerbread would boot as the phone is powered by dual-core CPU.

As it comes with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) it almost supports every file which includes, MP4/DivX/XviD/WMV/ H.264/H.263 player for video playback and MP3/WAV/eAAC+ player for audio playback. It even comes with Audio/ Video editor, Digital Compass and Adobe Flash support making it a perfect phone for web surfing too.

The phone is about to release, once we get the hands on experience we will share the actual battery performance.

Samsung Galaxy R is fits in mid-end level smartphone from Samsung it takes place next to Galaxy SL. Galaxy R doesn’t even come close to Galaxy S and is even better than that. The dual core architecture changed the game, we don’t have any idea regarding the RAM but I hope it will be 1GB. That even kills the existing iPhone 4. Only price will decide about its existence now.

It’s just announced by Samsung – so I have no idea about its release date and price. I think it will be available some time, the same time iPhone 5 is released.
