Sony Ericsson Xperia Series Android Phones will get Ice-Cream Sandwich Update this Year

Year 2011 was promising for Sony Ericsson as it came up with many Xperia devices which include Xperia Play, Neo V, Arc S, mini and mini Pro. Some among these are not yet launched as of now but are surely coming withing a month or two. As per the report from Sony Ericsson, these Xperia devices will be running on Android 2.3.4 out of the box.

Xperia Neo V will be the first among Xperia’s to run Android 2.3.4, however the predecessors will get the Android 2.3.4 update in October. This update brought exciting features like, video chat through Google Talk, Sony 3D sweep panorama for the camera, Facebook integration, Swype text input and many more.

Android 4.0 code named as Ice-Cream Sandwich is about to release in October or November, initially this release date was leaked but Google’s Eric Schmidt confirmed it later. Android 4.0 will be the combination of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) specially designed to power tablets and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) which powers the smartphone. The combined power of both will surely lift the device into air. If you are still unaware about Android 4.0 (Ice-Cream Sandwich) this is what you will need to know.

It is highly expected that Nexus Prime will be the first phone to run Android 4.0 (Ice-Cream Sandwich) which will be later followed by other phones. As the title says, Xperia lineup will also be included in the update where Xperia phones launched this year will be surely updated. As per my expectations update might hit the devices in 2012, before that many HTC’s may receive it.

You cannot expect any update for low end phones like Xperia X10 or X8 even Xperia devices released last year are not getting the update.

Latest additions to Android 4.0 will be NFC options, Virtual Camera Operator (similar to Xbox Kinect), USB hub support etc. also the phone might come button free like current Honeycomb tablets.
