Sony Xperia Sola – A New Addition to the Xperia Family

Better known for offering easy connectivity, premium content and services, Sony Mobile Communications some days ago announced the release of its new Smartphone – Sony Xperia Sola.

The announcement comes months after the company unveiled 2 other premium handsets from the same family, Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia U at MWC 2012.

What special features Sony Xperia Sola offers? The new addition to the Xperia family sports a 3.7-inch display that supports 854 by 480 pixels resolution with 16M colors and endorses a floating touch navigation technology for magic web browsing. Sony claims it to be the main highlight of the phone. Why? Well, for navigation purposes a user simply needs to move a finger over the screen, no need to touch the screen for that.

It’s not over yet! The device is also geared to detect touches through non-conductive fabric, which suggests that it can work with gloves too. Simply great!

Next, the Smartphone runs on Android OS V2.3 and is powered by a 1GHz ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 dual-core processor. Though the Smartphone runs on an older version of Android OS (version 2.3) an upgrade to the latest version, V 4.0 (IceCream Sandwich) is possible. Also, under the hood you will find a 1320 mAh battery that has the power to keep the  handset running up to 19 days when in stand-by mode and provide a talk-time of up to 5 hours when put on a 3G network.

The Smartphone is also NFC enabled and comes with two NFC Xperia SmartTags. These SmartTags, allow users to change their smartphone’s settings and applications as per their requirements. In addition, the phone includes a 5 MP camera with features like LED flash, auto focus, smile / face detection, geo tagging, etc. The camera is capable of recording videos in HD mode too. Plus, there is a built in FM radio for live music with recording option.

Few words from Calum MacDougall, Head of Xperia Marketing for Sony Mobile Communications, “Xperia sola comes with the power of Sony and a sense of magic with floating touch, giving consumers a fun new way to browse the web and latest technology to show off. With Xperia SmartTags out of the box and access to the latest content through Sony Entertainment Network, Xperia sola is perfect for consumers looking for ease of use and the best in entertainment in a smart and innovative smartphone.
