Recently Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden discovered that Apple is collecting your location information through your iPhone and iPad. This is same information which Telecom Operators accumulate as part of their operation, but it’s well secure and protected under their surveillance.
If some need this type of information so it’s normally requires legal court order but Apple made it easy for anyone to track you if they can get their hands on your phone or computer. Information of your locations is kept on your iPhone and iPad as well as on your computer which you use to sync your iOS device.
The information has been stored in a folder inside /Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backups/. Whereas user using encrypted option for backups then it’s safe, but still there will be a copy on your device.
The location is determined by triangulating against the nearest cell-phone towers. However this location information is not accurate like as GPS, but probably consumes less energy. So to come up with this issue you can use an application to restrict Apple from tracking your location.
The new utility called “untrackerd” is available for download in Cydia. The utility is developed by iOS App developer Ryan Petrich and its available for free.
The “untrackerd” app apply a tweak and ceases the database file (consolidated.db) which triggered the get location service. It stops iOS from writing to the specific database that stores the location information.
Apple has not responded till now on this issue. If it is really a bug, Apple will likely going to fix it in the next iOS update.
Package Details in Cydia
This package installs a daemon (process that can run in the background) to clean consolidated.db file. No new icons are added to your homescreen and there are no options to configure.
