XperiaBlog has leaked a new model of the Sony Xperia family called Xperia ZR. It claims that the handset was codenamed Dogo with model number C550X. The Smartphone will bring a better ruggedness than Xperia Z and will have a 4.6 inch 720p display powered by a Quad core processor and 2 GB RAM. The blog claims that the Smartphone will be closer to Xperia ZL in terms of design but will be more rugged than Xperia Z.
The Smartphone will feature IP55/IP58 certification, which is one grade higher than Xperia Z’s IP55/IP57 certification. Xperia ZR will thus allow the users to let it remain submerged under 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, while Xperia Z currently supports only 1 meter of water for the same amount of time. Further specifications of this phone are as follows:
- 4.6 inch display with 720p resolution
- 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad core processor
- 2 GB of RAM
- 13 MP camera with Exymos RS sensor for unparalleled image quality
- 8 GB internal storage with micro SD card slot expansion
- 2300 mAh battery
- 140g in weight and slightly above 10 mm in thickness
As per the specification, it seems that the Smartphone will target people who want the best of Xperia Z and Xperia ZL in a hybrid. No more details are available in terms of specifications, pricing or availability from Xperiablog. We don’t have any image of Xperia ZR as yet. As the Smartphone might come with only 8 GB of storage and 720p screen resolution, which is lower than 16 GB of storage and 1080p resolution in Xperia Z/ZL, we expect it to be priced lower than Xperia Z but somewhere in the vicinity of Xperia ZL.
Many people who were amazed by the build quality, ruggedness and camera quality of Xperia Z were put off by its price and could not find befitting shelter in Xperia ZL as well due to its lack of ruggedness. If Xperia ZR does pack what Xperiblog claims, then this will solve that problem and might bring the best of both at an expected lower price than Xperia Z. Users will have to make few sacrifices in terms of screen resolution but 720p on a 4.6 inch screen does not sound bad either.
