Overview

Aquadratic is merchant-of-record infrastructure for independent creators, developers, and other digital-product sellers. It is best suited to sellers who want one service to handle checkout, delivery, tax obligations, and disputes, rather than coordinating those jobs themselves. Its free commerce plan has no monthly fee, but the 7% transaction charge plus possible processor fees makes that operational convenience a material cost.

Key features

Each product can use a hosted checkout URL, an embeddable widget, or the REST API. That gives a solo seller a straightforward route to accepting orders while leaving room for a more tailored integration. Payments include cards through Stripe and PayPal, as well as cryptocurrency; Aquadratic also names Stripe, PayPal, and NOWPayments as processing integrations, with API keys and webhooks for connecting systems.

After payment, Aquadratic can automatically email license keys and digital products. As merchant of record, it says it calculates, collects, and files sales tax and VAT worldwide and manages disputes and chargebacks. That combination can reduce compliance and order-handling work for a digital seller, but businesses with enough volume to scrutinize fee rates should compare the 7% platform charge and processor costs against the value of outsourcing those responsibilities.

AquaDrop is a separate digital-delivery offering. It restricts downloads using seller-issued license keys and per-buyer signed URLs with short expiration times; instant revocation is included in Starter. Those controls are useful when sellers need to limit access to purchased files, though the delivery quotas and storage caps make plan selection important as a catalog or audience grows.

Aquadratic says payment data is handled primarily by processors and that it does not keep complete card numbers or other full sensitive payment credentials on its servers. Its privacy policy says it does not sell personal information for third parties' own marketing. The homepage displays 99.9% uptime, PCI compliance, and SSL encryption. Support for orders, delivery, refunds, and general requests goes through support@aquadratic.com, with a stated response time of 24–48 business hours.

Refunds are generally not available for digital product sales. Aquadratic may offer a refund, replacement, or credit in specified cases, and requests should be made within seven days unless law requires otherwise. Sellers should account for that final-sale posture when setting customer expectations.

Pricing

The Aquadratic platform plan is free, with no monthly fee or per-transaction minimums. It charges 7% per transaction, and processor fees may apply. This suits sellers who want to avoid a fixed subscription while getting commerce and merchant-of-record functions, but the percentage-based cost can become substantial as sales grow.

AquaDrop has its own delivery tiers. AquaDrop Starter is free, billed $0 forever, and includes 100 deliveries per month, 1 GB storage, signed URLs, license-key binding, and instant revocation. It is a practical starting point for low-volume delivery, but the monthly cap and storage ceiling constrain larger catalogs or sales activity.

AquaDrop Pro costs 19.00 USD per month, billed $19/month. Its 10,000 monthly deliveries and 25 GB storage raise the limits substantially, while adding webhooks, a custom domain, and download caps. It fits sellers who need more capacity and control than Starter allows, although the fixed subscription is separate from the economics of the commerce plan.

AquaDrop Scale costs 49.00 USD per month, billed $49/month. It includes Pro features, 100,000 deliveries per month, 250 GB storage, version channels, and full API access. The higher quota and API access make it the tier for substantial delivery needs or deeper integration; smaller sellers are unlikely to need its capacity.

Platforms

Aquadratic is available on the web and through an API. The web option supports hosted checkout and embedded widgets, while API access gives developers a way to integrate commerce into their own systems.

Who it's for

Choose Aquadratic if you sell digital products and want checkout, automated delivery, global tax handling, and dispute management together, especially if you can justify the 7% transaction charge as the cost of reducing operational work. AquaDrop is relevant when gated downloads, revocation, or delivery quotas matter. Look elsewhere if keeping transaction costs low is the priority, if your delivery needs exceed the chosen AquaDrop tier, or if generally final-sale refund terms do not suit your customer model.

Pros and cons

Pro: Checkout, product delivery, global sales-tax and VAT handling, and dispute management sit within one merchant-of-record service, reducing the number of commerce tasks a seller must coordinate.
Pro: Hosted checkout, an embeddable widget, and a REST API cover simple and integrated selling approaches.
Pro: AquaDrop's license-key binding and expiring signed URLs provide specific controls over digital downloads.
Con: The free commerce plan still charges 7% per transaction, with processor fees potentially added, so it is not a low-cost option by default.
Con: AquaDrop Starter is capped at 100 deliveries per month and 1 GB of storage, requiring an upgrade as usage grows.
Con: Digital sales are generally final, which may be a poor fit for sellers whose customers expect more flexible refunds.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Merchant of Record Software.

Tebex is worth considering for game-focused sellers: its Starter plan is free with unlimited packages and charges 5% for most games, or 15% for FiveM. Polar offers a free Starter plan at 5% + 50¢ per transaction and a $20/month Pro plan with a 3.80% rate, so it may suit sellers comparing transaction charges and platform coverage.

Fungies is another free option, charging 5% + 50¢ per sale with no monthly fee or per-seat charge, and allowing unlimited products, plans, and assets. Lemon Squeezy may appeal to sellers preferring no monthly ecommerce charge and a 5% + $0.50 transaction fee.

Coda is an alternative to compare if its document-oriented free plan is relevant: personal documents have no size or object limits, while shared documents are limited to 50 objects and 1,000 table rows. FastSpring uses custom revenue-sharing pricing, with rates depending on transaction volume and type, and offers a free trial rather than a free plan.

Breeze is another paid alternative. Freemius uses transaction pricing of 3.8% + 50¢ per transaction plus gateway fees, with no setup or monthly fee and no extra charge for cart or failed-payment recovery.

Verdict

Aquadratic is a strong fit for independent digital-product sellers who want merchant-of-record tax and dispute handling paired with checkout and automated delivery. Its main reason to choose it is that breadth, with AquaDrop adding useful download controls. Its main reason to look elsewhere is cost: a 7% transaction charge plus possible processor fees can outweigh the convenience for sellers focused on minimizing fees, while the generally final-sale refund terms also require a good customer-policy fit.
