Overview

AWeber covers broadcast newsletters, automated message series, opt-in forms and blog-post notifications. Alongside email, it offers landing and ecommerce pages, web push notifications, and tools to sell products, services and subscriptions, with sales tracking and purchase tagging. That range suits businesses using email as part of a broader sales workflow, not just occasional newsletter delivery.

Creation options include drag-and-drop, HTML and plain-text editors, plus more than 700 responsive HTML templates. AI tools assist with newsletter and email drafts, subject lines, signup forms and landing pages. These options give marketers several ways to build campaigns, while the platform’s focus remains small-business email marketing. AWeber was founded in 1998 and is headquartered in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.

Key features

Campaigns and audience management

Email automation, audience segmentation, A/B testing and landing pages cover the core needs of a campaign program. Automation templates are mostly built in advance and can be customized before activation, which can help teams get a workflow running without starting from a blank page. The practical limits depend heavily on plan: the free tier allows one automation, while Lite allows three and Plus removes the automation cap.

Businesses can collect payments through Stripe in more than 100 currencies. More than 750 integrations connect AWeber with services including Shopify, WordPress, PayPal, Facebook and Zapier; Zapier and Pabbly can extend connections to thousands of applications. Developers can use the REST API and webhooks to add subscribers, send campaigns, retrieve analytics and manage lists; integrations connecting to customer accounts use OAuth 2.0.

Support, security and mobile access

AWeber provides 24/7 support by phone, live chat or email, with priority support on Plus. It also offers free account migration handled by its team, a useful starting point for businesses moving an existing email program. AWeber says it encrypts data in transit and at rest, monitors continuously, maintains backups, conducts risk assessments and uses DDoS mitigation; it also says it does not sell customer, subscriber, advocate or visitor information.

There are no dedicated mobile apps: phone and tablet users access AWeber through its browser-based mobile website. That is a real drawback for anyone who wants a native app for managing campaigns away from a computer.

Pricing

AWeber has a free tier, a 14-day trial and paid plans. The trial starts a paid subscription automatically when the 14 days end, so users who do not want to continue need to account for that conversion.

AWeber Free: $0.00 USD for lifetime access, up to 500 subscribers and 3,000 emails per month. It includes one list profile, one workflow automation and one landing page, with no credit card required. Free-plan emails carry AWeber branding, and the limited monthly volume makes it best for a small list or an initial trial of the service.
Lite: $12.49 USD per month, billed annually. It allows unlimited subscribers and monthly sends up to 10 times the subscriber count, with one email list, three landing pages, three automations, three users and one custom segment. It is a reasonable step up for a small team that can work within those list and segmentation limits; paid plans remove the free-tier branding.
Plus: $19.99 USD per month, billed annually. It offers unlimited subscribers, monthly sends up to 12 times the subscriber count, and unlimited lists, landing pages, automations, custom segments and users. This is the stronger fit for teams managing several audiences or workflows, though it costs more and remains an annual-billed plan.
Unlimited: $899.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with unlimited subscribers, full feature access and up to 15 sends per subscriber each month. Its high price makes it a plan for businesses that need the stated scale, not a typical small-list newsletter.
Done For You: $20.00 USD per month, billed annually, includes Plus, setup completed in seven days and 30 days of unlimited edits. A $79 setup fee is shown, with $599 given as the regular setup fee. It suits customers who want setup assistance rather than configuring the service themselves.
Hold Package: $4.99 USD per month to temporarily pause an account while preserving its data. It is an account-preservation option, not a campaign plan.

The published paid starting price is $12.49 per month on annual billing; check the plan quotas before choosing based on that entry price. Lite’s single list and single custom segment are particularly important constraints for growing or segmented programs.

Platforms

AWeber is available on the web and through an API. Mobile browser access supports phone and tablet use, but there is no dedicated mobile app.

Who it's for

AWeber fits small businesses and entrepreneurs who need email campaigns alongside landing pages, automations and ecommerce tools, or who value a broad integration network and migration support. Lite can suit a compact operation with one list and a few workflows; Plus better serves teams that need more lists, segments and users. Businesses needing a native mobile app, a larger free sending allowance, or several lists on the lowest paid plan should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad campaign toolkit: Email, automation, segmentation, landing pages, ecommerce functions and web push are available in one platform.
Flexible email creation: Drag-and-drop, HTML and plain-text editors, more than 700 responsive templates and several AI writing and page-building tools serve different workflows.
Extensive connections and support: More than 750 integrations, free team-handled migration and 24/7 support can ease adoption and ongoing operations.
Room to expand on Plus: Unlimited lists, automations, custom segments and users remove several constraints found on Lite.

Cons

Free tier is tightly capped: At 500 subscribers and 3,000 monthly emails, with one automation and one landing page, it may be outgrown quickly; its emails also include AWeber branding.
Lite restricts list growth: One email list and one custom segment can be limiting for businesses organizing multiple audiences.
Trial converts automatically: The paid subscription starts when the 14-day trial ends, so the end date matters to anyone evaluating the service.
No dedicated mobile app: All phone and tablet access goes through the browser-based mobile website.

Alternatives

Choose DirectIQ if its free, no-monthly-commitment pay-as-you-go plan with unlimited contacts and per-email charges better matches your sending pattern. Twilio Segment may suit a reader whose needs align with its free plan’s 1,000 monthly visitors, two sources and 700-plus integrations. For API-focused email sending, Twilio SendGrid offers a free trial capped at 100 emails per day and 100 contacts for 60 days.

GetResponse is another email-marketing alternative. Mailjet has a free plan with 6,000 emails per month, a 200-email daily cap, 1,000 contacts, APIs, SMTP Relay and webhooks. Mailchimp has a free plan capped at 250 contacts, 500 emails per month, one audience and one seat. Direct Mail is an alternative for Mac and iOS users. Klaviyo has a free plan capped at 250 active profiles, 500 email sends per month and $5 of mobile messages per month.

Verdict

Choose AWeber if you run a small business and want campaigns, automation, landing pages and ecommerce tools supported by a large integration network. Its breadth and Plus plan’s unlimited team and audience tools are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if a branded free tier with only 3,000 monthly emails is too restrictive, you need multiple lists on the entry paid plan, or native mobile apps are essential.
