Overview

Birdie brings care, rostering, finance, and compliance into a platform for homecare agencies. Care plans, visit notes, and eMAR share a client record, while separate tools serve office staff, carers, and relatives. That joined-up approach can suit agencies trying to coordinate more than care documentation alone, but custom pricing makes it harder to assess the core platform’s cost before speaking with Birdie.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in London, Birdie supports providers from those onboarding their first client to established operators. It runs on Android, iOS, and the web.

Key features

Care delivery and field work

The Carer App combines schedules, care plans, tasks, messaging, and check-in tools, with offline capability for periods without a reliable connection. Alongside care documentation and electronic visit verification, Birdie supports route optimization and availability management. This breadth makes it relevant to agencies that need to coordinate visits as well as record care; it may be more platform than a provider seeking only a narrow documentation tool needs.

Office and family access

The secure, web-based Agency Hub gives office staff and managers access from any computer. Relatives can use the Family App for visit updates and care notes, extending visibility beyond agency staff. That wider access is useful when family communication is part of the service, though it also means Birdie’s value depends on wanting connected tools for multiple groups.

Reporting, integrations, and security

Birdie says it provides more than 50 pre-built reports and real-time dashboards, which can help managers monitor operations without building every report from scratch. It lists rostering integrations with Careplanner/Nourish, Malinko, Cold Harbour, Caras, Quickplan, iCare, and CareFree, but accepts no new integrations. Business connections include Xero and QuickBooks, payroll systems including Sage, CRM systems, API access, and custom exports; agencies relying on a new rostering integration should treat that restriction as a material fit issue.

Birdie states that it is ISO 27001 certified, holds Cyber Essentials Plus, exceeds NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit standards, and complies with UK GDPR. It also says it hosts data in the UK, conducts annual penetration testing, continuously monitors for threats, and provides 24/7 incident response. Live chat support is included with a response in 10 minutes or less; Premium Support costs extra.

Pricing

Birdie’s four agency plans are billed monthly, with costs based on scheduled care hours and custom pricing available by quote. The entry-level Starter plan includes digital care assessments and plans, templated drag-and-drop rostering, invoicing and payroll, Carer and Family apps, GP Connect, and eMAR. It covers core agency workflows, but providers must request a quote to judge whether the scheduled-hours basis suits their volume.

Core adds analytics, digital body maps, action creation and assignment, auditing forms, and multi-payer invoicing to Starter. Advanced adds secure carer messaging, evidence tagging, workflow automation, recommended assessments, and outcome monitoring to Core. Plus builds on Advanced with custom workflows and Premium Support. The progression gives agencies a route to more oversight and tailored processes, but each step’s cost needs to be assessed against a quote rather than a published price.

SmartPlans is for AI-powered assessments and is not sold as a standalone product: it requires the Birdie platform. The subscription option is “From £2.75 per recording hour,” with a monthly commitment and unused hours rolling forward. Pay-as-you-go costs “From £3.50 per recording hour,” billed monthly with no minimum commitment, and includes three free recording hours to start. The subscription’s lower starting rate may suit predictable use, while pay-as-you-go avoids a minimum commitment; neither removes the platform requirement.

Platforms

Birdie supports Android, iOS, and web. The Agency Hub is web-based, while carers and families have dedicated apps. This split matches agencies that need office access alongside mobile tools in the field and for relatives.

Who it's for

Birdie is a strong candidate for homecare agencies that want care records, rostering, business workflows, reporting, and family updates in one connected environment. Smaller providers can use the same platform as established operators, but should weigh scheduled-care-hours pricing and the breadth of the system against their actual needs. Agencies that require a new rostering integration, want SmartPlans without the core platform, or need published agency-plan prices should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: A shared client record brings care plans, visit notes, and eMAR together, reducing fragmentation in care documentation.
Pros: Carer and Family apps extend schedules, care information, and visit updates beyond the office.
Pros: More than 50 pre-built reports, dashboards, and connections to finance, payroll, and CRM tools support agency oversight.
Cons: Agency plans require a quote based on scheduled care hours, so providers cannot compare their exact monthly cost upfront.
Cons: SmartPlans cannot be purchased on its own, limiting its appeal to agencies that do not want Birdie’s wider platform.
Cons: Birdie accepts no new rostering integrations, which may rule it out for agencies dependent on an unlisted connection.

Alternatives

Home Care Scheduling Software is a useful starting point for comparing options across the category.

CareCade may suit agencies that want a published tier for up to 50 clients at $300/mo or unlimited clients at $550/mo, with unlimited staff on both plans.

ShiftCare is worth comparing if a per-user price is easier to budget: its Premium plan is $20 per user, per month billed annually, or $25 per user, per month billed monthly, with a five-staff minimum.

AveeCare may fit teams that prefer one published rate, $6/patient/month, billed monthly by peak active patient count, with unlimited users and caregivers.

CareVoyant is another paid home care software option with pricing by request.

ANKOTA is a paid agency platform covering home care, EVV, I/DD, adult day, and self-direction programs.

Generations Homecare System offers a $25/month EVV plan for existing Generations accounts, with additional visit verification fees.

Rosemark System offers a $49/month month-to-month Starter plan for small private-pay home care agencies, without a long-term contract.

AxisCare is another paid option, with quote-based plans for agencies ranging from small providers to enterprise operators.

Verdict

Choose Birdie if your homecare agency wants care delivery, office workflows, and family-facing updates coordinated in one platform, backed by reporting and broad business connections. Its main case against it is cost clarity: scheduled-hours pricing requires a quote, and SmartPlans only makes sense if you are prepared to use Birdie’s wider platform.
