Overview

Field Agent is a shopper-assignment platform built around collecting information in stores and online. It is best suited to adults seeking retail tasks or organizations coordinating collection projects; its central trade-off is that shoppers are paid only for approved submissions.

The mix of task formats and major-retailer coverage gives shoppers several ways to participate. For project teams, an API adds tools to create jobs and retrieve results, though the shopper side remains dependent on finding and completing assignments that pass review.

Key features

Assignments include audits, surveys, Buy & Trys, ratings and reviews, Eye Spys, scavenger hunts, and mystery shops. Agents reserve a job, complete it, submit it for review, and receive cash after approval. This variety can suit people who prefer different kinds of shopping tasks, but rejected work earns nothing, so completing a job does not guarantee payment.

Jobs span retailers including Walgreens, 7-Eleven, Dollar General, Albertsons, McDonald's, Best Buy, Kroger, Target, Kohl's, Publix, Costco, and CVS. Assignment scheduling, a shopper portal, multiple forms of evidence collection, shopper payments, and results analytics support the collection workflow. Field Agent supports the United States, Australia, Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, and Great Britain; that country coverage does not ensure a job is available in a particular shopper's area.

Organizations can use the API to create jobs, manage templates, launch projects, retrieve results, and optionally use webhooks. That makes Field Agent relevant to teams that need both project setup and result workflows, rather than only a consumer-facing task app.

Users must be at least 18 to register. Field Agent may use Plaid to connect an account with a bank account and verify bank information, and uses Dwolla to originate credit transfers to an agent's financial-institution account. The company says it encrypts information in transmission with Secure Socket Layer software and does not sell users' personal information to others. Its Agent Help Center covers sign-up, cash-out, account questions, app features, jobs, and troubleshooting.

Pricing

The Field Agent App is free: free on Android or iOS, for users aged 18 and older. There is no cost to download the shopper app, but the free price is not a promise of earnings; payment depends on completing a job and getting the submission approved. Field Agent's pricing model is paid, with pricing on request for its broader offering, so organizations should expect custom pricing rather than a public project price.

Platforms

Field Agent supports Android, iOS, web, and API. The mobile apps serve shoppers completing assignments, while the API supports organizational project and result workflows.

Who it's for

Field Agent fits adults who want to take on varied store and online assignments, particularly where its supported retailers and countries overlap with their location. It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs guaranteed payment for every completed submission, since denied work is unpaid.

Brands and retailers can consider it when they need to launch jobs, manage templates, and collect results through an API. Teams seeking only a shopping app may not need those project functions.

Pros and cons

Pros: A broad selection of assignment types gives shoppers alternatives to mystery shops alone.
Pros: Retailer coverage includes major chains such as Target, CVS, Best Buy, and Kroger.
Pros: The API combines job creation, template management, project launches, result retrieval, and optional webhooks.
Cons: Payment is conditional on approval; denied submissions are unpaid.
Cons: The app is restricted to adults aged 18 and over.
Cons: Country support does not guarantee a nearby assignment, which limits its usefulness for shoppers without local jobs.

Alternatives

Gigwalk is a close alternative for shoppers comparing task apps: it is free to download, and individual Gigs pay $3 to $100 or more depending on the task. Consider it when that stated task-based pay range is more useful than Field Agent's approval-dependent payment model.

Mitti Training is a better fit for teams focused on inspections and training workflows. Its free plan supports up to 10 users, 300 AI credits per full seat per month, five active inspection templates, and basic training.

IntouchCheck is an option for teams looking for compliance inspections, with monthly billing by default and annual billing available by arrangement.

InspectWrk (formerly Inspectly360) may suit teams that want to evaluate a workflow through a 14-day free trial for one team, including mobile capture, a custom checklist builder, PDF reports, and a live dashboard.

iSecretShop is another freemium option, with a business platform whose price is discussed with sales.

Mystery Management is an alternative for shoppers or organizations comparing mystery-shopping software.

MobiAudit is a free alternative available on Android and iOS.

PRISM Mystery Shopping Platform is a paid alternative available on Android, API, iOS, and web.

Verdict

Field Agent is a strong candidate for adults who want varied retail assignments and for organizations that need API-based job and results workflows. Its breadth is the main reason to choose it; the possibility of unpaid rejected submissions is the main reason shoppers who need dependable payment should look elsewhere.
