Overview

Portico CORE is web-based financial aid software for career-focused schools, aimed at the teams that manage student aid from intake through disbursement. Its connected workflows and loan controls make it a strong fit for institutions with varied program structures; schools that need a public price for budgeting should look elsewhere.

Key features

CORE automates ISIR imports, document verification, award packaging, disbursements, and tracking without manual re-entry. That breadth can help financial aid teams coordinate recurring work across the aid cycle, while document collection, award-letter delivery, and compliance reporting cover key operational needs. A school seeking only a single-purpose tool may have little use for the wider workflow.

Loan controls are a particular strength. CORE identifies applicable loan limits and applies grandfathering logic using packaging and expected graduation dates. It also provides program-level controls, tracks enrollment transitions, and automatically reassesses loans when enrollment thresholds are crossed. These functions are especially relevant to schools managing changing enrollment and multiple program requirements.

The software supports clock-hour, credit-hour, term-based, and hybrid academic models. It integrates with Department of Education systems including COD, NSLDS, and Clearinghouse, and connects with most SIS/ERP platforms through API or FTP. Named SIS integrations include Anthology, Orbund, Verity, Maestro, Stars (exports only), Diamond, CampusLogin, and Populi. Schools should verify that their specific system and connection requirements are covered before choosing it.

Portico says its software is regularly updated to align with federal, state, and institutional policies and includes audit-ready reporting. It is web-based and requires no installation. Onboarding includes training resources, live Q&A, documentation, and a dedicated account manager, which gives teams several forms of support during setup.

Schools can operate the software in-house, outsource financial aid through managed services, or request project support such as compliance reviews and interim staffing. That flexibility is useful for institutions with changing capacity, though teams that want software alone can use it in-house.

Pricing

Portico Financial Aid Software (formerly Campus Ivy CORE) uses per-student pricing that scales with the school, with custom pricing. The plan is cloud-deployed and supports federal aid, document collection, award-letter delivery, compliance reporting, API access, and packaging workflows. Per-student pricing ties cost to school size, but without a public price schools need to request a quote to compare budgets.

Platforms

CORE is web-based and cloud-deployed, with Android, iOS, and API platforms. It requires no installation, which suits teams accessing the system through a browser as well as institutions connecting through API.

Who it's for

CORE is designed primarily for Directors of Financial Aid, Financial Aid Officers, and other financial aid teams at career-focused schools. Its supported sectors include nursing, allied health, beauty and wellness, and trade and technical institutions. Schools running clock-hour, credit-hour, term-based, or hybrid programs can use its supported academic models. Institutions outside these audiences should confirm that the workflows fit their needs before adopting it.

Pros and cons

Connected aid processing: ISIR imports, verification, packaging, disbursement, and tracking are automated without manual re-entry, helping teams coordinate the full cycle.
Focused loan controls: Program limits, grandfathering logic, enrollment transition tracking, and automatic reassessment address complex loan decisions.
Multiple support routes: Schools can keep operations in-house, use managed services, or request project support.
Custom pricing: Per-student costs scale with the school, but the lack of a public price makes early budget comparisons harder.
Integration fit needs checking: CORE connects to many SIS/ERP platforms, but schools should confirm their exact system and connection method.

Alternatives

Financial Aid Management Software is a useful starting point for comparing products in this category.

Populi Financial Aid is a paid, month-to-month alternative with a stated plan price of 1999.00 USD per month and a free trial. Consider it when a published monthly price and trial matter more than CORE's career-school focus and loan controls.
Anthology Student Verification is a paid option available on Android, iOS, and web; consider it when evaluating another platform in that category.
EDExpress is free for institutions and runs on Windows, making it a choice to consider when avoiding software cost is the priority.
Ellucian PowerCampus Financial Aid is a paid web and Windows option to consider when evaluating another financial aid platform.
ProSAM Solution Suite is a paid option for Linux, self-hosted, web, and Windows, with pricing by quote; consider it when those platform choices are relevant.
VIAS Financial Plans is a paid Android, API, iOS, and web option with no public price; consider it when evaluating another platform across those access options.
Collēgix Financial Aid is a paid web-based alternative.
Ellucian Banner Finance is a paid Android, iOS, and web option; consider it when those platforms suit your institution.

Verdict

Career-focused schools that need a connected financial aid workflow and detailed loan-limit controls should put Portico CORE on their shortlist. Its broad processing coverage, program-aware controls, and flexible service options are compelling; the main reason to look elsewhere is the custom, per-student pricing, particularly if a school needs to compare costs before requesting a quote.
