Overview

EngageNow is a work-finding and booking app for UK school staff who want roles matched to their subjects, qualifications and travel range. It suits people seeking school-based teaching, SEND, support, administrative or back-office work, rather than jobseekers looking across industries. Its appeal is the link between vacancy applications and day-to-day work administration; its defining constraint is that users must register with Engage Education.

Engage Education, founded in 2008 and headquartered in Watford, uses the hosted service to connect school staff with jobs and manage bookings. Applicants can apply in the app, but a consultant confirms the booking, so it is not a self-service route to a confirmed placement.

Key features

Matching and applications

Users can tailor matches by role, subject, key stage, qualifications and travel distance, then choose which push notifications to receive. This makes the app more useful to staff with clear preferences than a broad job feed. Each matching vacancy shows the school, date, role and pay before users apply, giving them relevant details at the decision point. The consultant confirmation step means an application alone does not secure the work.

Availability, bookings and timesheets

Users can set availability by day, mark dates unavailable and manage upcoming bookings in a calendar. The dashboard brings upcoming work and pending timesheets together, and shows whether submitted work has been approved. That combination is practical for staff juggling short-notice or recurring school work, although payment is processed by Engage Education's payroll team based on approved timesheets.

CPD, referrals and privacy

Registered users can access free role-relevant CPD resources. A referral feature awards Amazon vouchers for qualifying work, which may benefit users who bring colleagues into the service but is not a substitute for evaluating the job itself. Engage Education says it uses personal information for job matching and booking management, does not sell it to third parties, and makes app activity visible to itself and schools a user engages with. The maker describes AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2 or higher in transit, role-based access controls and Microsoft Azure hosting. Users can contact their consultant or app support team.

Pricing

Free: Free. The app is free to download and use, with no subscription fees or charges for applying to jobs; free CPD resources are included. This removes a direct cost barrier for school staff considering the service. The meaningful trade-off is not a paid tier but the required Engage Education registration and consultant-led booking process.

Platforms

EngageNow is available on Android, iOS and the web. The multi-platform availability gives users options for checking jobs and managing bookings, while the app's focus remains on school work arranged through Engage Education.

Who it's for

EngageNow is a good fit for UK teaching, SEND, school support, administration and back-office staff seeking day-to-day, short-term, long-term or permanent school roles through Engage Education. It is less suitable for people who want an independent, multi-employer job search or who do not want to register with the agency.

Pros and cons

Pros: Job preferences include role, subject, key stage, qualifications and travel distance, helping staff focus alerts on relevant school work.
Pros: Vacancy details, applications, availability, bookings and timesheet approval status sit within one service, supporting work management beyond the initial job search.
Pros: There are no subscription fees or application charges, and registered users get free role-relevant CPD resources.
Cons: Users need Engage Education registration, and a consultant must confirm bookings, limiting the app's independence.
Cons: App activity is visible to Engage Education and schools the user engages with, a consideration for users weighing privacy.

Verdict

Choose EngageNow if you work in UK schools and want a free, focused way to find Engage Education roles while keeping availability, bookings and timesheets together. Its main strength is that work-management continuity; look elsewhere if you want a general job marketplace, more employer independence or applications that do not depend on consultant confirmation.
