Overview

Employees can submit leave requests for HR or a manager to approve, retrieve current and older documents attached to their own record, acknowledge policies, and sign documents without printing. Individual access is limited to each employee’s own requests, documents, and records, making the portal’s self-service model compatible with personal employee files.

Requests, signatures, and acknowledgements appear on HR’s side in real time. The portal works in a browser on phones, tablets, and computers, so employees do not need a dedicated mobile app. HRDocket says it can support teams from a dozen employees to several thousand; in practice, the Growth plan’s 50-employee cap means larger teams need Business.

Key features

Employee documents and signatures

Staff can view and download older as well as current documents tied to their record, then complete signatures through the portal. Every paid plan includes audit-grade e-signatures, a useful distinction for organizations that need signed records without printing and handling paper.

Leave and policy workflows

Employees initiate leave requests, while HR or a manager keeps approval authority. Policy acknowledgements happen in the same portal, supported by policy templates, version history, and automated reminders. This brings common follow-up tasks together, though the portal does not remove the need for a manager’s decision on leave.

Compliance and scale

Growth includes AI compliance and risk assessment checks, while Business adds advanced compliance workflows. The split makes Growth the entry point for teams that want those checks and the portal, while organizations needing the advanced workflows or more than 50 employee seats must move up to Business.

Pricing

HRDocket has a free plan, a free trial, and paid plans from $19 per month. The free plan is free and is capped at one employee profile and one company, with 10 AI credits, limited templates, and watermarked PDF downloads. It can serve as a narrow starting point, but it is not a practical shared employee portal for a team.

Starter costs 19.00 USD per month, or $15.83/mo billed annually ($190) with 2 months free. It allows up to 15 employees, 120 AI credits per month, two companies, and two custom templates. That gives small teams more capacity than Free, but Starter does not include employee self-service, so it is the wrong tier if the portal is the reason to buy.

Growth costs 49.00 USD per month, or $40.83/mo billed annually ($490) with 2 months free. It covers up to 50 employees, 250 AI credits per month, three companies, five custom templates, and the employee self-service portal, plus AI compliance and risk assessment checks. This is the relevant plan for organizations that want the feature without needing unlimited seats.

Business costs 99.00 USD per month, or $82.50/mo billed annually ($990) with 2 months free. It includes unlimited employees, 600 AI credits per month, four companies, seven custom templates, dedicated support, and advanced compliance workflows. It is the clear choice for larger organizations or those needing its support and compliance tier, but smaller teams should weigh those additions against Growth’s lower price.

Platforms

HRDocket Employee Self-Service is available on the web. Its browser access extends to phones and tablets, but the platform list does not include a separate native mobile app.

Who it's for

This is best for HR teams that want employees to handle document retrieval, signatures, policy acknowledgements, and leave requests through one portal while keeping access to individual records restricted. Small teams can use Growth if they need self-service; teams above 50 employees need Business. It is less suitable for buyers who want the portal on a low-cost Starter subscription or a free plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Employees can access their own current and older documents, reducing the need to route every retrieval through HR.
Pros: Leave requests, signatures, and acknowledgements appear for HR in real time, while leave approval remains with HR or a manager.
Pros: Browser access works on phones and tablets, and employee-specific access limits protect the separation of records.
Cons: Self-service starts at Growth, so Starter’s 15-employee allowance does not include the feature even if it suits the team size.
Cons: Growth stops at 50 employees; larger teams must pay for Business to get unlimited employees.
Cons: Free is limited to one employee profile and includes watermarked PDF downloads, making it a constrained option for organizational use.

Alternatives

For a broader starting point, compare HR Policy Management Software and HR Knowledge Base Software. For a free policy-focused option, Firmis offers a Starter plan with up to five policies, one compliance framework, basic version control, PDF export, and up to 10 team members. Akcepta offers a free self-hosted or web plan with one active policy and version approval, but no employee sending.

TrackOlap Policy Center is an alternative for buyers considering attendance and leave management. AirMason is worth comparing if digital handbooks and automated policy updates are the priority; its Startup plan is 149.00 USD per month for 1 to 99 employees. Corethix Policies is another paid alternative. Keelstar offers free tools with no account and one-time browser results, while Accedo has a free plan for up to 25 users and 10 active policies, with no groups, scheduled reminders, analytics, or audit logs. AllyMatter is another paid option, with a Startup plan at 29.00 USD per month for 25 editors and unlimited free viewers.

Verdict

Choose HRDocket Employee Self-Service if you want employees to manage routine leave, document, policy, and signature tasks through a browser portal while HR retains approvals and real-time visibility. Its strongest case is the combination of employee-specific records access and integrated workflows. Look elsewhere if the portal must fit within Starter or a free plan, or if a team above 50 employees cannot justify Business.
