Overview

Place a date or time before FollowUpThen’s email address and it schedules a reminder. It accepts thousands of date formats, including intervals, specific dates and recurring schedules. This keeps routine follow-ups close to the conversation instead of requiring a separate planning workflow; it is a focused reminder tool, not a broad task or project-management system.

Adding the address in BCC keeps the reminder private to its sender. Putting it in CC sends the due follow-up to everyone in the message’s To field, which can help coordinate a group without separate reminders. Upcoming follow-ups can be managed in the web app, by emailing pending@followupthen.com, or through a daily agenda. The basic email workflow requires no inbox connection, a useful distinction for users wary of granting broad email access.

Key features

Recurring reminders, persistent tasks, SMS notifications, response detection and automatic cancellation when a reply arrives are among the listed add-ons. These can reduce manual checking for people managing repeat or reply-dependent follow-ups, though some capabilities are add-ons rather than part of every plan. FollowUpThen also lists Zapier, which it says connects to 4000+ other apps, and Google Calendar features for managing follow-ups.

The service says follow-up message bodies are stored with 128-bit encryption and automatically deleted between four weeks and six months after a follow-up is sent. Privacy mode deletes message bodies and attachments when scheduling, but retains the subject and headers for threading. For support, debugging and system operations, headers and subjects are saved in an unencrypted searchable format, a meaningful consideration for sensitive correspondence. The company says it undergoes an annual security audit by a Google-approved third-party firm using manual and automated penetration testing. Users can delete their account and export follow-ups as a portable CSV; a data processing agreement for EU customer data is available on request.

Pricing

The Free plan is free, is free forever, and allows 50 active followups per month. That is a practical starting point for occasional personal reminders, but a monthly active-follow-up cap may constrain regular work.

The Base Plan costs 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly at $5/mo. It includes basic functionality, attachments, calendar integration, tasks, cancellation and recurring followups. It is the clearer fit for users who need those capabilities beyond the free allowance; the free tier gives up the listed paid-plan inclusions.

Skills is an optional à la carte add-on plan, billed $2~20/mo, with examples including response detection, SMS and calendar integration. Choose it for selected extras rather than assuming all add-ons are bundled into the base plan. The pricing note also gives a 14-day trial.

Platforms

FollowUpThen is available on Android, iOS and the web. The company says its email-address-based service works on mobile phones, PCs, tablets and other devices, so scheduling by email is not tied to a desktop workflow.

Who it's for

It is a good fit for individuals and small groups who already organize follow-ups through email and want reminders without connecting an inbox. BCC and CC routing cover private nudges and shared follow-ups, while the web app and daily agenda provide ways to manage what is pending. Teams looking for a broader shared work-management environment, or users unwilling to retain searchable email headers, should consider another approach.

Pros and cons

Pros: Basic reminders need no inbox connection, limiting the access required for the core workflow.
Pros: BCC and CC support private reminders and follow-ups sent to everyone in the To field.
Pros: Email, web-app and daily-agenda management provide multiple ways to handle pending reminders.
Cons: The free plan is capped at 50 active followups per month, which may not suit heavier use.
Cons: Subjects and headers are retained in unencrypted searchable form for support, debugging and system operations, even though privacy mode removes message bodies and attachments.
Cons: The Skills add-ons are priced across a $2~20/mo range, so the cost of specific extras depends on what is selected.

Verdict

Choose FollowUpThen if you want a compact, email-based way to schedule private or shared follow-ups without connecting your inbox for basic reminders. Its main trade-off is the 50-active-follow-up monthly free cap, alongside retained unencrypted searchable headers and subjects; users with heavier volumes or stricter privacy needs should look elsewhere.
