Overview

Mautic brings email marketing, lead management, forms and campaign journeys into one system. Teams can personalize and A/B test marketing and transactional emails, then use lead scores, triggers, groups and funnel stages to shape follow-up. That range suits coordinated, multi-step marketing; it is more than many small teams need if their requirements stop at basic email campaigns.

As an open-source product, Mautic can be installed on a server chosen by the user. Its configurable tracking controls, IP anonymization and cleanup tasks support privacy work, including GDPR and CCPA requirements, while self-hosting gives an organization control over where its data runs. Those controls are not a substitute for the organization’s own compliance work.

Key features

Campaigns and contacts

A click-and-drag campaign builder supports complex campaign design, and drag-and-drop tools create mobile-optimized emails and landing pages. Lead scoring, triggers, groups and funnel stages help teams organize contact progression, while multichannel data collection can enrich contact profiles. Forms can be embedded on websites, landing pages and applications, or shown in popup modals.

Integrations and privacy

Mautic connects with multiple CRMs and supports SMS integrations, webhooks, a plugin marketplace and a REST API for custom connections. Managed hosting can be scoped around CMS, CRM and analytics integration needs, which is useful when a team needs a connected stack but does not want to operate the server itself.

Mautic’s security team handles vulnerabilities in the core product and officially supported plugins, coordinates disclosures and issues CVEs in its own namespace. That provides a defined security-response function, but it does not remove the need to maintain a self-hosted installation or assess other plugins.

Pricing

Mautic has a free download and a 14-day trial, as well as paid managed hosting from Dropsolid, its official hosting partner. The managed plans remove server maintenance from the customer’s workload; the self-hosted route avoids a software charge but requires technical capacity and suitable infrastructure.

Plan	Price and terms	What it means
Download (self-host)	Free	Free to download and use. The organization must handle CLI, web-server configuration, database, PHP and cron-job requirements.
Mautic Trial	14-day free trial	Includes all Mautic features and requires no credit card. It is a short evaluation window, not a continuing free managed tier.
Mautic Essential	€247.50/mo when billed annually; €275/mo when billed quarterly	Managed shared hosting, with up to 50K contacts, 50K emails/month and 100 emails/minute; email service is included. It fits teams within those sending and contact ceilings that want managed operations.
Mautic Professional	From €1237/mo	Managed dedicated hosting from 50K contacts, extendable up to 3M, with dynamic content, advanced workflows, a dedicated support manager and possible custom development. It targets organizations whose scale or workflow needs exceed Essential.
Mautic Enterprise	Custom pricing	For large-scale operations and deep integrations, with up to 6M emails a month and up to 4,000 emails/minute. The larger sending capacity comes with a negotiated price rather than a published monthly rate.

Essential’s shared hosting is the lower-cost managed entry point, but its 50K contact and monthly email caps matter for growing databases or high-volume senders. Professional moves to dedicated hosting and higher contact capacity at a substantial price step. Managed plans have no restriction on team-member count, and multiple sending domains can be authenticated in one installation.

Platforms

Mautic is available as a web product, through self-hosting, and via API. Self-hosting requires CLI, web-server, database, PHP and cron-job knowledge; Mautic recommends a virtual private or dedicated server rather than cheap shared hosting because of resource and configuration limits. Free multilingual community support is available through forums, while hosting, support, training and consultancy can also be obtained through partners.

Who it's for

Mautic is a good fit for marketers and organizations that need automated lead nurturing, scoring and multi-step campaigns, and that value control over hosting and data. The free self-hosted route can suit technically capable teams; managed Essential is more appropriate for teams that want maintenance, updates and security patches handled and can work within its quotas. It is a poor fit for teams without server expertise that also cannot budget for managed hosting, or for senders likely to outgrow Essential’s limits.

Pros and cons

Pros: Open-source self-hosting offers control over infrastructure and data, with privacy-oriented tracking controls, IP anonymization and cleanup tasks.
Pros: Campaign automation, lead scoring, forms, email testing and landing-page tools cover a broad marketing workflow in one product.
Pros: Managed Essential has no team-member cap and includes email service, maintenance, updates and security patches.
Cons: Self-hosting depends on several technical components and suitable server resources, making the nominally free route costly in staff time and operations.
Cons: Essential caps both contacts and monthly sends at 50K, while higher managed capacity starts at €1237/mo.
Cons: The trial lasts only 14 days, so it offers limited time to evaluate a complex implementation.

Alternatives

For a different scale or feature mix, compare Mautic with these options:

Manago AI (formerly SALESmanago) is a paid alternative with a free trial and Android, iOS, web and API platforms; consider it if those platform options matter more than a free plan.
GetResponse is a freemium option with a free plan, trial and Android, iOS, web and API access. Its Starter plan includes unlimited monthly email sends and one custom automation workflow, a simpler fit for teams prioritizing sending volume over Mautic’s open-source control.
EngageBay offers a free web plan for up to 15 users, 250 contacts and companies, and 1,000 branded emails per month. It suits small teams seeking a free entry point with those explicit caps.
Klaviyo has a free web plan capped at 250 active profiles, 500 email sends/month and $5 of mobile messages/month; choose it if that smaller free allowance meets your needs.
ActiveCampaign is a paid option with a free trial and web, iOS and Android platforms; it may suit buyers seeking a paid product with mobile access.
Brevo Conversations has a free forever plan for one user, with no credit card or time limit, across web, iOS and Android. It is worth considering when a permanent free, single-user option is the priority.
Aritic PinPoint is a freemium product with a free plan, trial, and API and web access; its Lite plan is $59.00 USD per month and includes 350+ direct integrations.
Maropost Marketing Cloud is a paid alternative with a free trial and API and web platforms; its Essential plan is $279.00 USD per month for 250000 contacts and 2000000 emails.

Verdict

Choose Mautic if you need full marketing automation, want control over hosting and data, and can support either a capable self-hosting setup or managed service. Its broad campaign and lead toolkit is the case for choosing it; the operational demands of self-hosting and the sharp managed-plan price steps are the reasons to look elsewhere.
