Overview

Providers can upload assessment reports or answer guided questions and enter baseline data. IEP Pilot works with psychoeducational, speech-language, occupational-therapy, behavior, previous-IEP and related eligibility documents. One uploaded document can inform goals across relevant domains, with a baseline, criteria and measurement method for each. This is a practical advantage when an evaluation touches multiple areas, though the output should be treated as a starting point rather than IEP-ready judgment.

The service also recommends FAPE services aligned with generated goals. It does not determine eligibility or replace the IEP team, and providers should review goals before using them in an IEP. For districts, the separate workspace extends from intake and eligibility through IEP development, service delivery, progress monitoring, compliance, state reporting and Medicaid billing. SIS and state integrations help align student rosters and state extracts with the system of record; individual accounts and role-based data scoping restrict access to assigned students.

Key features

IEP Pilot’s strength is the path from assessment evidence to structured draft goals: users can supply reports or guided answers and baseline data, then receive goals with domain-specific criteria and measurement methods. That can help providers organize work across disciplines, but it does not remove the need for professional review. The FAPE recommendations add a related planning prompt, not a substitute for team decisions.

Privacy safeguards include encrypted transmission of uploaded PDFs and deletion after the analysis session. Submitted content is not used to train AI models, and IEP content is not sold, shared or licensed to third parties. The district workspace says it is built to FERPA, HIPAA and COPPA guidance, while formal security and privacy certifications are still being pursued. Districts that require completed certifications should weigh that status before adopting it.

Progress monitoring, service tracking, compliance reporting and student data import are supported. Support is available by email and phone Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM.

Pricing

IEP Pilot uses a freemium model, with a free plan and a free trial. Its paid drafting services are pay as you go rather than subscriptions:

IEP Goal Generator Service: 2.00 USD per once, billed for every Area of Need. An area can include multiple goals, and there is no subscription.
Assessment Report Writer Service (21+ assessments): 3.00 USD per once, billed per assessment.
Assessment Report Writer Service (11–20 assessments): 4.00 USD per once, billed per assessment.
Assessment Report Writer Service (1–10 assessments): 5.00 USD per once, billed per assessment.

The goal service suits occasional drafting without a recurring commitment. The report-writer rates favor higher assessment volume; providers handling only one to ten assessments pay the highest per-assessment rate. District workspace pricing is custom pricing, so districts should assess that separately from the one-off services.

Platforms

IEP Pilot is available on the web, making it a fit for browser-based provider and district workflows rather than readers seeking a listed mobile app.

Who it's for

Occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, resource specialists, teachers, behavior analysts and school psychologists are the intended audience for goal and present-level drafting. Districts may value the broader intake-to-reporting workflow, student access controls and system integrations. It is a weaker fit for teams looking for automated eligibility determinations or a replacement for collaborative IEP-team decisions.

Pros and cons

Pro: A single assessment document can support goals across relevant domains, with domain-specific baselines and measures, reducing the need to approach each domain as a separate drafting task.
Pro: One-time, pay-as-you-go services avoid a subscription for occasional goal or report work.
Pro: District workflow includes progress monitoring, compliance, state reporting and Medicaid billing, alongside SIS and state integrations.
Con: Generated goals need provider review, and eligibility remains with the IEP team; this is drafting assistance, not autonomous case decision-making.
Con: Districts requiring formal security or privacy certifications may need to wait, since those certifications are still being pursued.
Con: Assessment Report Writer costs more per assessment at lower volumes, reaching 5.00 USD per once for 1–10 assessments.

Alternatives

For a free, cross-platform option with learning-plan collaboration and AI support, consider CollaboratED: its free Starter plan includes all stakeholders, learning plans, SIS/LMS interoperability, and AI SPED Expert (Eddy). Connecticut local education agencies seeking a no-cost option can consider CT-SEDS, provided to them free; Medicaid billing and local SIS sync may involve separate costs.

For per-student school-year pricing and unlimited users, SameGoal Special Education offers a Standard plan at 12.98 USD per year for the 2026-27 school year, with 50MB attachments/doc and document history limited to the last week. Pennsylvania districts comparing school-focused tools can consider IEPWriter, whose school pricing is based on district special education student count; college and university pricing is also offered.

For a one-caseload educator plan with every feature included and free family accounts, SyncIEP costs 10.00 USD per month; its district plan is priced by conversation and includes rollout support. Districts seeking a behavior-support product can consider PowerSchool Behavior Support. SEIS is managed and maintained by CEDR Systems, a department of the San Joaquin County Office of Education. SIRAS is another web-based option.

Verdict

IEP Pilot is a strong fit for special education providers who want assessment-informed goal drafts without taking on a subscription, and for districts that need a wider IEP workflow in one workspace. Its standout value is connecting multi-domain drafting with district operations. Look elsewhere if your team needs formal certifications already in place, or expects software to make eligibility decisions or replace professional and IEP-team review.
