Overview

Outwrite checks spelling and grammar, suggests ways to improve style and structure, and reports real-time readability and grade-level statistics. That broader editing focus makes it a stronger fit for revising drafts than for writers who only need errors flagged. Its Rewrite feature offers alternate sentence wording for fluency and variety, while paid users also get a limited allowance for plagiarism checks against public internet text.

The free plan provides spelling and grammar support, a thesaurus, and access through the web app, browser extensions, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word. It does not include the style improvements, structural suggestions, or sentence rewriting that distinguish Outwrite’s paid editing offer.

Key features

Spelling and grammar: Finds misspellings and grammatically incorrect phrases. This covers routine proofreading without requiring a paid subscription.
Style and structure: Pro and Teams add style improvements and structural suggestions. These are the main upgrade benefits for writers seeking editorial guidance beyond correction.
Sentence rewriting: Rewrite offers alternatives intended to improve fluency and variety. It is useful when a sentence needs reshaping, but it is available only on paid plans.
Writing statistics: Readability and grade-level statistics update in real time, giving writers another way to assess how accessible a passage may be.
Plagiarism checks: Pro and Teams include 50 checks per month against publicly available internet text. That is a defined monthly allowance rather than unlimited screening.
Languages: Outwrite supports English in US, UK, Australian, New Zealand, and South African variants, as well as French and Spanish. That range suits multilingual work, though it does not extend to a broad set of additional languages.
Online integrations: It works with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Gmail, LinkedIn, and WordPress. The Word add-in supports Word 2016 or later on Windows, Word on Mac and Windows Microsoft 365, and Word on the web.

Pricing

Outwrite uses a freemium model, with a free plan and paid monthly tiers.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	Free	Spelling and grammar, thesaurus, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, browser extensions, and web app.
Pro	9.95 USD per month	Style improvements, structural suggestions, sentence rewriting, 50 plagiarism checks per month, and priority email support.
Teams	7.95 USD/user/month	50 plagiarism checks per month, group discount, team-access management, consolidated billing, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, browser extensions, and web app.

Free is suitable for basic proofreading and access across the listed writing tools, but it gives up Outwrite’s style, structural, and rewriting guidance. Pro is the individual choice for those capabilities and plagiarism checks. Teams is for groups of three or more; its per-user monthly price is lower than Pro’s, and it adds centralized access and billing, but it is not an individual plan. The monthly terms are explicit; no annual option is described.

Platforms

Outwrite is available as a browser extension, web app, API, and on macOS and Windows. It has no desktop app or mobile app. The Word add-in’s supported versions make it a practical option for people editing in Word across supported desktop and web editions, while the lack of mobile apps limits those who want a dedicated phone or tablet experience.

The API requires an API key with every request and operates only over HTTPS. Outwrite says it uses industry-standard encryption in transit and safeguards including firewalls, password access, and secure servers. Users can request deletion of User Data, but text snippets used by its AI platform remain in Outwrite’s systems. That retention is worth weighing for sensitive writing.

Who it's for

Outwrite fits students, professionals, casual writers, and teams who want to refine wording and structure as well as correct errors. It is most compelling for people who write in supported online services or Word and will use its paid editing features. Writers who only need basic correction can stay on Free; those requiring a mobile app or unwilling to accept retained AI text snippets should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: Rewriting, style and structural suggestions, and real-time readability statistics extend editing beyond spelling and grammar.
Pro: The free tier includes core correction and access through the web app, extensions, Google Docs, and Word.
Pro: Teams offers group access management and consolidated billing for groups of three or more.
Con: The central style, structure, and rewriting tools are absent from Free, so the no-cost plan is primarily a proofreader.
Con: Pro and Teams cap plagiarism screening at 50 monthly checks.
Con: There is no mobile app, and text snippets used by the AI platform remain in its systems even when users request deletion of User Data.

Verdict

Choose Outwrite if you want proofreading plus paid tools for rewriting, structure, and readability, especially in supported browsers and Word. Its free tier makes core correction accessible, while Pro and Teams add meaningful editorial assistance. Look elsewhere if mobile access or stricter control over AI text retention is essential.
