Overview

Campaign creation pairs a drag-and-drop editor with templates and AI-assisted content creation, giving teams different ways to build messages. The more consequential advantage is the connection between audience targeting and automation: contacts can be grouped into lists, enriched with custom fields, and segmented with multiple conditions, then targeted through workflows triggered by recipient behavior.

Live workflows can be edited without disrupting journeys already underway. Ecommerce teams can use promotional emails, purchase follow-ups, feedback requests, and abandoned-cart triggers. Email A/B testing helps compare variants, while reports cover opens, clicks, unsubscribes, bounces, and delivery statistics. The testing capability described is for email, even though the platform also supports SMS and WhatsApp.

Key features

Multichannel campaigns and targeting

Running email, SMS, and WhatsApp campaigns from one platform can suit teams that want coordinated outreach without treating each channel as a separate campaign operation. Lists, custom contact fields, and multi-condition segments provide useful control over targeting. That combination is more substantial than a basic newsletter tool, though the value depends on having the staff and audience data to use segmentation deliberately.

Automation, testing, and reporting

Behavior-triggered workflows and the ability to adjust live journeys support ongoing campaigns rather than only scheduled blasts. Ecommerce triggers make the automation more relevant for stores, while email variant testing and engagement and delivery reporting help campaign owners assess results. Native integrations number 40; named connections include Zoho CRM, Salesforce, Shopify, SurveyMonkey, HubSpot, and Zapier.

Zoho says its products, including free editions, show no ads and that it does not sell user information to third parties. Email, telephone, and in-product chat support are listed, with priority support included in Standard and Professional.

Pricing

Zoho Campaigns uses a freemium model. Forever Free is free and includes up to 2,000 contacts, 6,000 emails per month, five users, basic reporting, and integration with 35 apps. That is a generous entry point for a small team testing regular campaigns, but the monthly email allowance can become restrictive as send frequency grows. The plan supports five users, so it is less constraining for a small team than a solo-only tier.

Standard has custom pricing, starts at 500 contacts, and includes unlimited emails, 10 users, and support for up to 100,000 contacts. It suits organizations that have outgrown the free send quota and need room to expand, though the 10-seat allowance is a consideration for larger marketing groups.

Professional also has custom pricing. It starts at 500 contacts and offers unlimited emails, 20+ users, and a ceiling of 500,000 contacts. It is the better fit for larger teams or audiences that need higher capacity; the jump in contact allowance is substantial, but pricing should be weighed against actual list size and team needs.

A free plan and a 14-day trial are available. Compare the contact and email volume you expect to send before settling on a tier: the free plan’s 2,000-contact cap and 6,000 monthly emails are distinct limits, while paid plans advertise unlimited sends but still have stated maximum contact capacities.

Platforms

Zoho Campaigns is available on web, Android, and iOS, with API access. This gives teams options to access the service across browsers and mobile devices, while the API platform is relevant for software connections.

Who it's for

Small businesses that want segmented, behavior-driven campaigns across email, SMS, and WhatsApp are the clearest fit. Ecommerce sellers can make use of purchase follow-ups and abandoned-cart triggers, and teams with growing lists can move to paid tiers with unlimited email sends. It is less compelling for a business that only needs occasional, straightforward email sends and does not need its targeting, automation, or extra channels.

Pros and cons

Pros: Email, SMS, and WhatsApp campaigns share one platform, useful for teams coordinating more than email outreach.
Pros: Multiple-condition segmentation, behavior-triggered workflows, and editable live journeys give campaign owners meaningful targeting and maintenance options.
Pros: The free plan allows 2,000 contacts and 6,000 monthly emails, plus five users, making it a practical starting tier for a small operation.
Cons: Free sending is capped at 6,000 emails a month, which may limit frequent campaigns even when the list remains under 2,000 contacts.
Cons: Standard and Professional have custom pricing, so teams must assess the paid tier against their audience and seat requirements.
Cons: The stated contact ceilings of 100,000 on Standard and 500,000 on Professional mean the highest tier still has a defined audience limit.

Alternatives

AWeber is worth considering for a smaller email-only setup: its free plan includes up to 500 subscribers and 3,000 monthly emails, with one list profile. Choose Zoho instead when the larger free contact allowance or SMS and WhatsApp support matters.

GetResponse may suit a reader prioritizing a defined starter automation allowance: its Starter plan lists one custom automation workflow and unlimited monthly email sends at 1915.58 USD per month (billed monthly · paid annually). Zoho is the more direct fit when multichannel messaging and ecommerce triggers are priorities.

Mailchimp has a free plan with 250 contacts, 500 emails per month, one audience, and one seat. It is an option for a much smaller free-tier audience; Zoho offers more contacts, monthly sends, and seats at no cost.

Klaviyo offers a free plan capped at 250 active profiles and 500 email sends per month, plus $5 of mobile messages per month. Consider it when that smaller allowance suits your needs; Zoho provides a larger free contact and send quota.

MailerLite has a free tier with 250 subscribers, 2,500 monthly emails, two user seats, and three automations. It can suit a smaller list with defined automation needs, while Zoho’s free tier has more contacts, sends, and seats.

Sender offers up to 2,500 subscribers and 15,000 emails a month on its free plan, with one seat and Sender branding. It is a strong alternative when free sending volume matters more than team seats or Zoho’s three-channel campaigns.

SendPulse offers 500 subscribers and 15,000 emails per month free, alongside five automated flows. It may fit a smaller list that prioritizes a larger free email allowance and a stated flow count; Zoho allows more contacts and more users on its free tier.

ActiveCampaign is a paid alternative with a free trial and a Starter plan described as a customized plan for personalized email marketing campaigns.

Verdict

Zoho Campaigns is a strong choice for small businesses that need segmentation, behavioral automation, ecommerce triggers, and email, SMS, and WhatsApp campaigns in one service. Its free tier is unusually roomy for contacts and seats, but the 6,000-email monthly cap is the practical ceiling to watch. Choose it when those tools support a real campaign program; look elsewhere if a simpler or higher-volume free email service better matches the job.
