Overview

Riverside combines a transcript, timeline, and speaker-based workflow in the browser. Recordings made in Riverside and uploaded files can be separated into individual speaker tracks, so editors can work on voices without treating a mixed recording as one undifferentiated clip. The emphasis is practical: changing a line in the transcript changes the corresponding video edit.

Teams can share files, assign roles, comment, and exchange feedback in the editor. When Riverside is only the first stage of post-production, edited timelines can be exported as XML for Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Its integrations include Spotify for Creators, Spotify, Transistor, Castos, HubSpot, Salesforce, and webinar webhooks. Riverside was founded in 2020 by brothers Gideon and Nadav.

Key features

Speech-led editing

Text-based editing lets you delete a line or correct a word and apply that change to the video. Automatic captions and silence removal reinforce this workflow, making it a sensible choice for interviews, podcasts, and webinars where tightening speech matters more than elaborate visual effects.

Tracks, automation, and handoff

Separate tracks for each speaker make it easier to adjust a participant’s contribution. One-click AI tools provide speaker layouts, eye-contact correction, audio enhancement, and B-roll generation. AI audio cleanup is also included, while AI transcription in 100+ languages is reserved for Pro. The maximum export resolution is 4K, and XML export keeps a Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro workflow open.

Collaboration and security

Timeline editing, roles, comments, and feedback support distributed production rather than a single-editor handoff. Riverside states that it is SOC 2 compliant and that its security is ISO/IEC 27001 certified, initially approved in May 2022. Support rises from live chat on Pro and Live to priority support, customized onboarding, and a dedicated Customer Success Manager on Business.

Pricing

Riverside has a free plan, paid plans billed annually, and a 14-day trial. The Free plan is free, with a one-off two-hour multi-track recording allowance, 720p maximum quality, a watermark, and 44.1 kHz audio. It is useful for a short proof of concept, but the one-off quota and watermark make it a poor basis for an ongoing show.

Standard costs 15.00 USD per month, billed at 180 USD annually. It raises multi-track recording to five hours per month, supports up to 4K, removes the watermark, and records at 48 kHz. This is the practical entry plan for regular creators who do not need Pro’s language transcription or higher support tier.

Pro costs 24.00 USD per month, billed at 288 USD annually. It keeps 15 hours of monthly multi-track recording, adds AI transcription in more than 100 languages, and includes live chat support. It fits teams producing several conversations each month, provided 15 hours is sufficient.

Live costs 34.00 USD per month, billed at 408 USD annually. It also provides 15 recording hours, but adds 1080p live streaming, multistreaming, and custom RTMP. Choose it for live distribution rather than simply for editing capacity.

Business uses custom pricing and includes unlimited multi-track recording, production workspaces, priority support, and SSO. It is aimed at organizations that need administration and volume beyond the fixed plans.

Platforms

Riverside supports web, macOS, iOS, and Android, including editing on a mobile phone through its app. Computer recording works in Chrome, Edge, and Safari browsers; Linux computers are unsupported for recording. That browser requirement is a significant constraint for Linux-based teams.

Who it's for

Riverside is a strong fit for podcast producers, interviewers, webinar teams, and agencies that need transcript edits, speaker isolation, review comments, and a path into Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Mobile editing helps teams make changes away from a desk. It is a weaker choice for Linux recording, for general video work where conversation is incidental, or for anyone whose output cannot accommodate the Free plan’s watermark and one-off quota.

Pros and cons

Pros

Transcript-based cuts: correcting or removing words applies directly to the video.
Separate speaker tracks: recordings and uploads can be edited by participant.
Team workflow: roles, comments, and feedback keep review in the editor.
Professional handoff: XML export supports Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro.
Flexible distribution: Live adds multistreaming and custom RTMP.

Cons

Linux recording exclusion: Linux computers are not supported for capture.
Free-plan restrictions: the two-hour allowance is one-off, exports are watermarked, and quality stops at 720p.
Monthly quotas: Standard, Pro, and Live cap multi-track recording at five or 15 hours per month.
Annual billing: the published monthly prices are tied to yearly payments.

Alternatives

Wondershare Filmora is a broader cross-platform option, including Windows; its free exports are watermarked, while Basic includes 1 GB of cloud storage and 500 free AI Mate conversations.

Rescript is a free, open-source choice for noncommercial use, with Linux, macOS, Windows, and web support.

InShot suits mobile-first editing with an ad-supported free plan and paid features in Pro.

Videoleap offers free tools across Android, iOS, and web, but free exports carry a watermark.

Adobe Firefly is the alternative when generative creation, rather than conversation editing, is the priority.

VDOGEN provides a web studio that can be tried without an account.

CapCut is a mobile-focused alternative with free templates and cloud storage on its Standard plan.

Diffusion Studio is an open-source option spanning web, desktop, API, and CLI workflows.

Verdict

Choose Riverside for conversation-led production that benefits from transcript cuts, speaker tracks, collaborative review, and XML handoff. Look elsewhere if Linux recording, unrestricted monthly volume, or a general-purpose visual editor is more important than its speech-centered workflow.
