Overview

Zoho People brings basic employee administration and recurring lifecycle work into one product. Records provide a central HR foundation, while leave, onboarding, performance and time tracking extend it beyond a simple personnel database. The service runs on the web and has iOS and Android apps, giving employees and managers access away from a desktop.

Zoho People is made by Zoho People, headquartered in Chennai, India, and founded in 1996. Its freemium model combines a five-user free plan with a 30-day trial, making initial evaluation possible without committing to a paid tier.

Key features

Core HR and lifecycle work

Employee records: Centralizes employee information, which is useful for teams replacing scattered personnel files with one HR system.
Time-off management: Supports leave administration. It fits organizations that need leave handled alongside employee data rather than in a separate tool.
Employee onboarding: Adds onboarding to the same system, helping teams keep a recurring joiner process connected to employee records.
Performance management: Extends the platform into performance processes, so it can serve teams that want more than administrative record keeping.
Time tracking: Includes time tracking for organizations that need hours recorded within their HR platform. No further workflow or quota detail is established, so buyers with specialized tracking requirements should confirm suitability.
Mobile apps: iOS and Android apps complement browser access, a practical advantage for employees and managers who need HR access while mobile.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and allows 5 users. It is the natural starting point for a very small team that needs to assess the core HR scope without a software bill, but the five-user cap makes it unsuitable for a larger workforce.

Essential HR, Professional, Premium and Enterprise each require a minimum of 5 users. Treat that figure as an entry point rather than a quote for a particular tier: organizations need a plan-specific price before budgeting.

Plan	Price and terms	Best fit
Free	Free; maximum 5 users	Individuals or micro-teams evaluating core HR needs
Essential HR	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Small organizations moving beyond the free cap
Professional	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Teams that need a paid-tier configuration, subject to quotation
Premium	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Organizations comparing higher-tier capabilities through a sales discussion
Enterprise	Custom pricing; minimum 5 users	Larger or more demanding buyers prepared for tailored pricing

The 30-day trial gives prospective buyers a defined evaluation window. Renewal terms and plan-specific quotas are not established, so confirm those points before purchase.

Platforms

Zoho People is available on the web, iOS and Android. Browser access suits office-based administration, while the mobile apps support employees and managers who need access from phones or tablets.

Who it's for

Zoho People is a strong fit for small businesses consolidating employee records, leave, onboarding, performance and time tracking in one place. The free five-user allowance is particularly useful for a tiny team or an initial evaluation. It is less compelling for organizations that need a published price for a specific paid tier, have fewer than five employees but require paid features, or need detailed assurances about tracking workflows and quotas before selecting software.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad core coverage: Records, leave, onboarding, performance and time tracking sit in one HR product, reducing the need to assemble those functions separately.
Low-risk entry: A free plan for five users and a 30-day trial let very small teams evaluate the service before paying.
Mobile availability: iOS and Android apps add access beyond the web interface.

Cons

Paid-tier minimum: Every named paid plan starts at five users, limiting options for smaller organizations that need paid functionality.
Unclear tier budgeting: Essential HR, Professional, Premium and Enterprise use custom pricing, so a buyer cannot establish a plan-specific budget from the published figures alone.
Limited published detail: No further quotas or workflow depth are established for time tracking, making requirements validation important for specialized use cases.

Verdict

Choose Zoho People if your organization needs employee records together with leave, onboarding, performance management and time tracking, and a five-user free starting point is useful. Look elsewhere if a smaller-than-five paid deployment, a fixed tier price, or more explicit time-tracking requirements are essential before you commit.
