To create music with AI, write a brief that describes the song’s purpose, sound, structure, and vocal approach; generate a first version; then revise one musical choice at a time. For more control, separate lyric drafting from audio generation, or generate an instrumental and continue editing its stems or MIDI in your production workflow.
1. Decide What The Track Needs To Do
Before opening a generator, decide whether you need a vocal song or an instrumental, and what the listener should notice first: a lyric, a melody, a groove, or a change in energy. Think in musical parts—opening, main section, contrast, and ending—so your prompt gives the model an arrangement to attempt rather than only a mood.
Write a short brief with these decisions:
- Use: the context where the track will be heard, such as a game menu, a demo, or a video.
- Sound: the genre, mood, and instrumentation you want. These are creative directions; a prompt does not guarantee a specific result.
- Structure: name the sections and where the energy should change.
- Vocal plan: choose lyrics with vocals or an instrumental. If using lyrics, identify the central idea and any lines that must stay intact.
2. Draft A Prompt That Gives The Model Musical Direction
Use a compact prompt that gives each choice a job. For example: “Create an instrumental for a quiet puzzle-game menu. Use a restrained electronic sound, a steady pulse, and a small repeating melody. Begin sparse, add a low rhythmic layer in the middle, then return to the opening texture for a calm ending.” This describes a use, sound, and arrangement without assuming the generator will follow every instruction exactly.
For a vocal song, make the lyric idea and section plan explicit: “Write a reflective song about leaving a familiar place, with a short verse, a memorable chorus, and a final verse that changes the point of view.” If you already have lyrics, say which lines to preserve and what you want revised. Treat the output as a draft: listen for whether the sections, words, and musical changes actually came through.

4. Revise By Listening For One Problem At A Time
Compare each result with your original brief. Make a short note about the largest mismatch, then change only the prompt direction or section that addresses it. For example, if the middle feels too dense, ask for fewer layers there; if the hook is hard to remember, simplify the melodic or lyrical idea. These are instructions to try, not guaranteed controls or outcomes.
- Listen once for the overall arc: does the opening lead into a main section, create contrast, and reach the ending you asked for?
- Listen again for the track’s main identity: can you pick out the melody, rhythm, or lyric that should carry it?
- Identify one mismatch and revise that element only. Keep a copy of versions you may want to compare.
- When the arrangement is close, use section editing, replacement, or extension where the chosen product supports it. For more control over an instrumental, use Soundverse’s stem or MIDI export; Suno and Eleven Music also list stem export.
5. Check The Output And Its Intended Use
Listen to the exported file from beginning to end, including the transitions and ending. Check that the lyrics are intelligible if there are vocals, that no unwanted section or abrupt change remains, and that the file format fits the next step in your workflow. Features, export options, and rights can depend on a product’s plan, so check the vendor’s current terms before relying on a particular output or use.
