Create your own music by starting with a musical idea you can describe, shaping it into lyrics or a chord-and-melody sketch, then arranging and revising the result until it sounds like your song. Use AI for specific jobs—such as drafting lyrics or generating an instrumental—and keep decisions about structure, performance, and edits in your hands.
Start With A Musical Brief
Before opening a tool, write a short brief that gives you something concrete to make. Choose the feeling, point of view, and one detail that makes the song yours. If you have a genre or instrument in mind, include it as a direction, not as a guarantee: the listed tool details do not establish support for every genre, instrument, or sound.
- Premise: What happened, or what do you want the listener to feel?
- Point of view: Who is singing, and to whom?
- Musical direction: Name a mood, energy, and any sound you want to explore.
- Constraint: Pick one, such as a short chorus, an instrumental passage, or a repeating phrase.
For example: “A late-night train ride after leaving a familiar place; first-person voice; reflective and steadily building; a chorus that turns the image of passing lights into a decision to move forward.” This is a starting brief, not a claim that a particular platform will produce those exact musical details.
Build A Song Skeleton

- Write the central line. Turn the premise into one plain sentence that could anchor a chorus. Then draft a verse that gives a specific scene and a chorus that states what changes for the singer.

For a vocal song, try a prompt tied to your brief: “Write a first-person song about leaving a familiar place by train. Keep the verse grounded in passing lights and the chorus focused on choosing what comes next. Reflective mood, gradual build.” For an instrumental, specify a role and progression of energy instead: “Make an instrumental for a quiet night journey; begin sparse, add rhythmic motion in the middle, and leave space at the end.” Treat these as prompt-writing examples. Check the chosen service for support of the genre, instruments, duration, and controls you need; those specifics are not established here.
Turn The Draft Into Your Arrangement
- Choose the strongest version. Keep the version that best carries your brief, even if it is rough. Note the parts you want to retain and the parts you intend to replace.
- Revise one section at a time. Tighten the verse for clear images, make the chorus easy to remember, and check whether the melody gives the key line enough room. SongIntent lists line-level revisions; Suno lists section replacement and extensions.
- Make a human performance or edit. Sing, play, record, rearrange, or rewrite the parts that define your version. Song Cage supports recording and DAW use through an AU/VST3 plugin; Songzap lists audio and MIDI exports to major DAW workflows.
- Keep the project organized. Save the lyric, chord notes, prompt, and chosen version together. If you move into a DAW, export only in a format the selected tool lists and confirm any plan limits first.
Check Rights And Save The Version You Can Use
Before using a voice reference, cover, or sample, get the needed consent and check the service’s terms for that material and your intended use. Rights can differ by tool and plan: for example, Suno’s free plan does not include commercial rights, and product terms should be checked before publishing or monetizing any output.
