You can make an AI cover song for free by uploading a track to a free cover generator, choosing a voice model, previewing the conversion, and downloading it if the free plan allows. For hands-on control without a paid web plan, use a local voice-conversion workflow such as Applio or RVC WebUI; both require you to supply or find a suitable voice model.

Prepare The Source Track
Start with a song you have permission to use. A cover workflow needs the original melody and timing to remain recognizable while the lead vocal changes. - Choose a voice: Select a voice model offered by the service. Do not assume a model represents a particular singer, language, or genre unless the service states that detail.
- Preview before spending more free access: Media.io explicitly offers previews. For other services, check whether previewing is available and whether it uses credits or counts toward a free limit.
- Download if your plan allows it: Confirm the free download allowance before starting. Media.io’s free plan covers two tracks for personal use; HitPaw says free usage and downloads are limited, without a specific amount established here.
Use A Local Voice-Conversion Workflow
Applio and RVC WebUI are options for technical creators who prefer a local workflow. They convert a vocal using a voice model, so model selection and setup are part of the job; free access does not mean a ready-made model is included.

Make The Result Easier To Judge
- Compare the converted lead vocal with the original backing at the same point in the song so you can hear whether the melody and timing still work.
- If the voice sounds unsuitable, try a different available model or a cleaner vocal segment. Voice choices and controls vary by service; check the vendor’s site for genre, language, and model specifics.
- Keep a copy of the source and your chosen model details so you can reproduce the conversion. Do not assume a free plan includes unlimited jobs, downloads, or commercial rights.
Check Consent And Terms Before Sharing
Get consent before making or sharing a cover that impersonates a real person’s voice, and check the selected service’s terms for permitted use. FineShare Singify restricts commercial use under its service terms; Media.io’s free plan is personal use only, with commercial use requiring a paid plan; HitPaw may require separate authorization or licensing for commercial use; and Applio or RVC WebUI do not establish rights for a voice model merely by providing conversion software. Spotify says vocal impersonation is allowed on its service only when the impersonated artist has authorized it. Its AI music policy also describes AI disclosures in credits, so check current platform requirements before distributing a cover.
